Default Camshaft Help ASAP

I gotta have my parts soon and i really need this replied to in the next 3-4 hrs with the final decision. Which camshafts should i get for stock internals? i was gonna get skunk 2 stage 1 but someone said it wasnt worth it. i am gonna be raisin compression to 12.3 with piston kit so is it necessary to have the camshafts? or should i wait for the camshafts to get the stage 2 with new internals? any help would be great. thanks.

list of parts prply ordering just in case u need to know:
-TODA high compression piston 81 mm 12.3 comp.
-type one exhaust system
-exedy lightweight flywheel
-hondata s200
-toda head gasket
-toda cam gears???
-skunk 2 stage 1 cam gears???

sorry if this doesnt make alot of sense, it is 4 am and i have been writing papers for classes (in 4 hrs), and studying for finals tomorrow.

All depends on what your end goal is. Some members on this board have had success using OEM camshafts. My personal preference is JUN3 camshafts for reasons that should be incorporated into another thread.

sounds like you are getting into something you dont know enough about yet. i would suggest doing more research before buying anything. been there, done that.

but to answer your question, i think bigger cams tend to like higher compression and higher RPM. but there are a lot of variables and it just depends on the set up what works best on a particular motor. trial and error. I was on JUN3s and with just mild fuel tuning(cams at 0,0) they definitely seemed to like higher compression and higher RPM as horsepower really didnt drop off til 8500-9000 RPM.

I agree with this but there is also such a thing as under camming a motor.

probably Jun3 or M24x but like the above two posters said...you'll probably buy something and end up changing it out later anyway.

The Skunk2 gears are going to perform just as well as the Toda gears, but will cost you $100 less. The choice is yours.

Yup, i second this...since your going to be hit 12 compression, I would get the Skunk STAGE 2 camshafts....

JUN3's on my ITR .. Just-like-OEM idle and awesome power on both low and high cams. On the dyno, it made solid power all the way up to 8750 RPM !!! 191whp with very mild tuning. "Tuned" factors were cam gears, engine timing, and gas pressure; no VAFC.

JUN3 = expensive but worth every penny.

At minimum you really should use upgraded valve springs with any camshaft `stage 2' or greater. You have the compression for lumpy cams but then you aren't going to maximise it with stage 1 cams. It's about matching the right bits, ie, std compression, basic bolt-ons then use `stage 1' cams - versus raising compression, bolt-ons, decent ECU with good tuner then use `stage 2' or above.

An inexpensive option would be using Skunk2 valve springs with Skunk2 Stage 2's.

Good luck, let us know your results.
