Arc welders
Hi, my dad bought an Arc welder a couple of years ago. Its still in the box so i want to put it to good use. I know arc welders arent as good as mig and tig welders, but are there anything i can fab up with it? Such as exhaust system, etc etc. ts got max amperage of 100amps Comments appreciated.

Plate steel and square tube will be your friends.

You have the amperage to do it with that machine, but you're going to find it , very, very difficult to do, it wasn't meant to do that sort of thing. I haven't seen anyone pull it off. I really just wouldn't waste the metal.

If its a DC arc welder you can convert it to a rudimentary scratch-start TIG welder quite easily (just add a tig torch and gas). Would make a good welder for cheap as long as you don't need AC or high frequency. If all you are doing is mild steel it would probably work.

Would you please elaborate on this a little more? I'm about to buy something, and if I can put together a tig for cheap that would be cool. I saw a Lincoln Ac/Dc welder for about 330 @ HD.
Also I welded my exhaust with a stick welder and it wasn't too bad. used small rods and like 40 amp. Proper speed was critical, though.

I've done about 4 exhausts with sticks! I still dont own anything besides an arc welder. besides the fact I just bought a Clarke 180 but I intend to keep the Arc because its just such a classic art
