Default Integra Theft

I own a 1989 Integra LS. It is in absolutely mint condition although very old. Does anyone here think I should consider theft protection for such an old car. I was surprised to see many cars only 5 years newer than mine stolen. My car is good looking but not flashy like many GSRs with aftermarket improvements here. Thanks!

I have bought/installed anti-theft features on every car I have ever owned, for the sole reason that they were my only car at the time, and if it were to be stolen, I'd be screwed.
I'm sure you can afford the $200 for a theft-deterent system, and some layering of security features.

Well, the car cost me $350 and I took it on as a restoration project for fun. I have 3 cars total so it wouldn't be the end of the world to lose it from that standpoint, however I really love the car now so I would miss it since it has become my pet. $200 would be worth peace of mind at the shopping mall I guess.

By the way I'm the old timer on this site. I'm a guy in my 40s.

maybe an autoloc and an alarm would suffice?

beyond a basic alarm, i don't see the need unless you're in a high crime area or you have a number of exterior mods. the g3 integra's are way more attractive to thieves than g1's.

i don't think its worth it

i think for you a kill switch would be the better idea...just wire it up...wil cost you like 5 bucks in parts...and the car will be safe. When it won't turn over the thieves will probably think its just broken cuz of its year

Is there anything in your car that is worth value to a thief? Think about it, if you were a thief, would you want an 89 LS engine with high miles? I would just get a kill switch and call it a day since you only paid $350 for the car.

Thanks everyone for your input!

I've had lots of people tell me the car looks new and people are surprised when I tell them it iis 15 year old car, soon to be 16. Suddenly I'm popular where I live and all the woman want to go for a ride. Kinda funny. ^_^ I think I will start looking into the possibilities of some kind of basic alarm. I guess it is reasonable to think I would not need a real elaborate system like the ones you guys have on your newer models or GSR's. Also, as I mentioned I live in a very rural area part of South Carolina. The nearest biggest city is 25,000 people.

Basically everything in the car is stock excep the radio. I did install a fancy aftermarket stereo that is quite powerful with MP3 capability and good speakers. That is about the only eye catching feature, other than the fact that the car is in mint condition.

Thanks again for everyone's recommendations!

People, alarms, kill switches don't really help. If a theif wants your car, he will get it. Garage your car, and don't drive it anywhere where your gonna not be in it. That's what I do. .

for an 89 integra
not to insult you
but you could leave that car with windows open
and key inside and they would not take it for a joy ride....

Well, where I used to work this was common practice for people to do just that. I think if my Integra were more beat up, like most of them I see around this age, I would do just what you describe, but since it is mint condition and it gets considerable attention, I am still a bit cautious. I think I will go for kill switch or moderate alarm just to be safe. Anyone know any good places to find a basic alarm?

Thanks
