Default how to replace antenna on 89 civic

I recently picked up an 89 civic. Due to horrible radio reception I went to replace the antenna only to find the cable was already gone, the previous user put the mast back on, apparently a botched attempt to fix this. What would I need to do thread this back through the pillar?

My best guess would be try threading a coat hanger through from the top, tie a string around it at the bottom, and pull it back through. Then tie the string around the antenna cable and pull it back down. It doesn't sound like fun, maybe some input from someone who has done this themselves?

I'd use some fishtape.
