Default 1993 GS-R (NEED A LITTLE HELP)

Hey guys, ok I've got a question. Does anybody know if a B-17 head will fit on a
B-18 block? That and I'm thinking about either rebuilding my currently blown B-17
motor, or getting a new B-18 motor. If I rebuild my B-17 motor with a alot of work and money I can get 240 to the ground over the 150 stock. The motor originaly put out 170, but you lose power to the ground,so. All I did mod wise was Akimoto intake, DC 4-2-1 headers and GReedy SP1 exhaust. So basically, should I rebuild or Buy a new B-18. OK today Im spending 7.5 grand to get this piece of **** moving again. Taking it to a place called speedfetish, check them out their in the web,out in spring tx, near hou.

huh? wha? 240 whp w/b17a w/"a little head work"? No offense dude, but you've got to do a lil more research. The only way a b17a is putting down 240 is with NOS or forced induction. And it's rated 160 at the flywheel stock, which would put at about 130-ish to the ground. I'd say stay VTEC and get a B18C1 at least, but if you've got the cash, hit the C5 and you MIGHT get 160 to the ground stock. Numbers aside, it'll be a fun machine to operate. Good luck!

240 to the ground sounds a little high for the b17. What are your plans for rebuilding it? The b17 head will fit on a b18 but it will change some of the characteristics of the motor. You should be able to find all your answers on this site. Welcome

I agree, I'd just get a B18 and swap it in. Get some more parts (i.e. cams, i/h/e, etc.) and get it tuned well, and you'll see some better numbers. As for the street racing (says in his profile) . Take it to the track.

Id say buy an LS block, and slap your head on there. My bro had an LS Vtec, stock bottom end with all head work and only got 218 (Did 12.2 at the track spinning) to the wheels. So if you think you can do 240, please tell me how. Also, how many "chips" are you putting in your car?

well unless you're spending 7.5k on all aftermarket parts specially for the engine, then yeah, i can see it happening..

but if thats supposed to include turbo kit, tuning, b18a/b, or b18c, or b18a/b with b16 head, or b18a/b with b17head, and installation, labor (unless ur doing it yourself) and some miss. parts you'll need for unexpected problems.. i highly doubt it.

but if you first get you your kit, ecu, pistions (lower compression), cam's, and some dyno time for tuning, then you'll hit that mark. not sure on exactly how much boost you'll have to run to hit that mark.. but i'd like to see another turbo DA here on the boards..

good luck

its really really really hard to hit 240 to the ground with 240...seeing it hit 210 is godly already

You can also do th Tech 43 sroker kit that came out. Do a search on it....it's really an interesting setup that lets you keep your B16/17 block.

7.5 Grand on cams, port and polish etc...
That seems REALLY high what are you exactly doing?
With that kind of money I can make more HP and a full built motor.

is this all motor? turbo or what?
If you need help please give us some more info on it be more specific
like what pistons, cams or what parts are you using then maybe we can help you!

dude the b17 is tight and capable of alot. Since you blew it i say go ls-vtec. Get a b18b block and use the b17 head. Add the bolt ons you want and that would be pretty fast. I know cause my friend has that same setup and its running a whole lot faster than my b17 with minor mods. Hes not reaching 240 hp but closer to about 215 with not that much done. Just build it right and know what you want.
