Yes, waterjet is what it is most often called.

You'd be in about $70k for one that will cut nothing thicker than 1/16" material. That may not be exact, but gives you an idea...

When you look at them, pay attention to the cut speed and material thickness. For the $250k mentioned above, you could probably cut 1/2" material or more.

In other words, if you find one you can afford, you'll be limited to cutting Christmas tree ornaments out of aluminum foil.

Im trying to think of it but i cant think of anything more bad *** than my cnc mill can already do... omfact as far as im concerned my mill can do more. i can cut at angles, i can flatten manifolds on it, i can cut at whatever depth i need to, i can tap holes, ect. ect. ect, i think i could live without a waterjet

Waterjets do kick ***, but if your welding as a hobby from your garage, its not very affordable, if you just need to make 2D shapes, then look into a CNC Plasma, that will cost about $6k+. Id love to have a CNC mill, but i wouldnt even know how to turn the thing on, i could work a CNC plasma no prob..... How much does a decent used CNC mill cost?

A cnc mill would cost around there, but plasma cutters are ungodly expensive.

HOLY S! I think I would have to get loan from the bank for that! I already have a Lincoln Pro Cut 80 plasma, I might have to look into the CNC table.....

water jets are cool, they can dut through just about any thing, i work for zygo and we make large optics, we get parts cut be water jet, it gose throught 1/4" fused silica(realy hard glass) its amazing water goes right through it but we need diamonds to cnc it.some of the mori seiki mills we have are insane too, they are lighting fast, traks can only do like 99.9 fps and are mills do like some crazzy number in the thousands.

how thick can they cut.....a buddy of mine that i found out has one and im thinking about makeing a rear plant cover over where my rear seats were in my 91 hatch si....people told me to do it out of ply wood, but im a metal worker... i hate wood but on the same sence, metal would be heavy, and im a person that want that car to be light as posable. if i were to do this floor...i would cut it out in to different sections... cut designs out it the sections. weld them up... mar-glass them, sand and then base coat air brush it and then clear it......

im thinking alum?
