Default cooling fan- most common part that fails?

What is the consensus on cooling fans that don't run at all:
What is the most common component that fails?
Relay
Thermostat sensor
not bleeding the coolant?
Thermostat?
or?

Cooling fan problems are usually the fan itself (worn motor brushes), or faulty thermswitch which causes the fan to engage. I've had both problems on high mileage 90 EX.

good luck
