Help Please - Is the problem the clutch or transmission?
My car is an 01 SH with ~63,000 miles and it seems to be having a problem that is either the clutch or the transmission.
When attempting to shift into any gear when the RPM's are above 3000 or so it is very difficult to get the transmission to go into gear, it takes a lot of force. This is true for all gears 2 through 5. Obviously this makes the car very unfun to drive. The clutch is the original and I learned to drive using it. I didn't think that I abused it that badly.
Some people have commented that it could be the pressure plate. Could this be the synchros or possibly the shift fork? If I shift below 3000 RPM the transmission slides into gear without a problem.
Someone on the Integra boards mentioned he had this problem and he said it was his pressure plate. I'm just wondering what you guys think the problem may be before I have it inspected. Perhaps someone here has had a similar experience.
Thanks, in advance.

To start you have to check your master&slave cylinders. Have someone sit in the car, and someone look at the fork. As you press the pedal, see for smooth FULL movement of the fork. If it seems gimpy and short, then you know your hydraulics are at fault.
If fork travel seems acceptable, you're going to have to pull the tranny. Once you do that the problem will be very apperant to you. Either the throwout bearing, or pressure plate will be the culprit.
Pulling the tranny is a hassle, especially on a SH model. Either way, good luck.

Just giving this thread a bump to see if anyone else has any experience/feedback. I plan on replacing the clutch anyways regardless and just want to know if there might possibly by any other problems. As far as replacing the clutch goes, I plan on just getting an OEM kit with the pressure plate and throwout bearing. I will probably have the master and slave cylinders replaced as well just for the hell of it.
most likely the pressure plate, but if you get a new one your better off getting the whole clutch kit.stock wont last much longer.good luck
It could be something as simple as bleeding the clutch hydraulic system. In case you don't know how, you can attach a hose to the bleeder screw on the slave cylinder (in front of engine around/below the battery) and dip the hose in brake fluid. Then open the bleeder screw and pump the clutch pedal until there are no bubbles coming out. Make sure there's plenty of fluid in the master cylinder.

so i see how to check the slave cylinder....how do i check the master cylinder??? just learning about my car, i'm having trans problems too...thanks
I had the same problem. I changed clutchs and it came back with a vengance. looked under my pedals while changing it out and noticed the hydrolic pump was leaking onto the carpet. it had a crack in it when i pulled it out. tossed a new pump in, checked seals, and runs perfect now.

It's hard to explain, but a bad master cylinder would feel like it's not holding pressure.
For instance, you should be able to disconnect the brake lines from it and plug the holes. When you push the clutch down, there should be resistance. If it's bad, you may feel resistance for a second, but then it will slowly sink to the floor.
If you're having problems, you should probably try the bleeding method mentioned in my other post first since it's easy to do.

same thing happens to my car... 96 with JDM LSD tranny, act stage 2 clutch and jun flywheel. im not sure what it is, if it is even any of those 3, but someone mentioned transmission cables? any feed back would be cool, thanks.
