Distributor Replacement/Shaft Question
I recently posted this thread about CEL 7 & 9 my ITR has thrown over the past week.
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1067993
Today my CEL reappeared so I decided to take her to Honda. There is nothing wrong with the TP Sensor and they cant find anything wrong with the rest of the car BUT they said :-
The distributor is noisy and they could not remove the rotor screw to check the dizzy. I spoke to the mechanic and he kinda said in not so many words that the distributor could be on its way out.
I got home and had a look to see if i could remove the rotor screw but they have chewed it up
, I have tried using an impact driver but I didnt hit it very hard, I also tried hitting with the correct screwbit with a hammer but to no avail.
What I am now considering doing is replacing the whole distributor as if its noisy it must be on its way out,BUT I am worried in case I have bent the distributor shaft when i hit it - so if i get my hands on a new one, does the shaft come with it?
N.B. This thread might make me sound like an idiot but I didnt hit that screw very hard, you cant even get much of a swing in there either!
I would rather pay £200 now than have the dizzy shaft lock on me and cause major failure. :-(
I havent even started her up since trying to get that rotor screw out

Go and get a new rotor then break off the old one, YES break it off probably into many pieces...
then before you put the new one on put some anti-size on the shaft and the screw so next time you won't have to go thru this.
As for bending the shaft... I doubt it.

Does the shaft have a lot of play in it? If it does then maybe it is bad, with out seeing and feeling it, It's very hard to tell.
Try the new rotor and cap and see if it still makes noises- If you feel up to it take the distributor out and investigate (use Helms books). Be sure to get some pics up so we could possibly help you.

I am going to remove it today, I have had a good read around today, I dont have a helms, its one of those things I need to invest in I know.
I use the honda uk owners site, they have workshop manuals for civic etc, I find for the majority of stuff they give me the basic info I need, only reason I am saying this is they might be of help to other out there :- '

Anyway back to my dizzy, I am gonna get her off and have a good look about, there was a lot of red dust in there under the cap so i am thinking something is "wearing" which caused my original CEL to give me a sensor error.
As for play the only play is rotational from what i can feel there is a 1degree if I move the rotor clockwise/anticlockwise, is this normal?

The red dust I also get... I think of it as normal
Only one Deg... I would have to think it's fine. Maybe some other people would want to put their thoughts in on this, I have my pajamas on now and it's too cold to be taking apart the car
