84-87 CRX HF aluminum drums...bolts on, no mods
Porterfield makes a rear shoe in their R4-S compound
Stainless braided lines and you should be set

I upgraded to 5th/6th gen civic rear drum brakes. They are bigger than 4th gen drum brakes. Here are pictures of the whole rear brake setup on my hatch.

why?

why take the time and money to upgrade to a bigger drum instead of disc?

im not that Big on disk breaks im not a weekend auto crosser,
dont really care about the looks. just want some decent stoping power.

im not really looking to go to a bigger drum, just seeing if there is ANY aftermarket support for the drum brake

if i do the rear disk i have to buy the setup. ebrake lines, probally brake lines, would make sence to do the bushings in the trailing arms. it adds up, and for what a few extra stopping feet and less nose dive on braking.

Just exploring my options, I dont mind working on drums there not that bad. so why not see what the possiblitys are?

upgrade the fronts to gsr/ls that will help better then getting the rear disk brakes.

The big brakes in front help out a lot you see the difference.

Light cars don't huge brakes.

Last time I was doing around 60-70mph in the rain I slammed the brakes not all the way just enough my rear started fish tailing. Front held up great no problems bigger is better

Dangerous is my middle name..

Ever hit a curb at 120mph and lived to tell about it..
I cracked the curb and swerved into a parking lot avoided flipping and hitting traffic on the other side. Thank god I am still alive.

You can drill holes in the corners of the drums in four spots around the outer hub corner.this will out-gas some of the heat and brake fumes.

Cheepest thing to help stoping power

Drums seem to actually be better the disc for auto crossing.

1. 84-87 light > 88-91 heavy
2. Very good. Aluminum body, iron friction insert
3. uh, yes they do. Was that a question or a statement?
4. Look around. There are several manufacturers. What am I...your personal shopper?

take dave with a grain of salt...

they are better for auto-x cause they are lighter, but people with disc dont usually swap out disc for drums, they just dont upgrade to disc...personally i wouldnt upgrade my rear drums to another set of rear drums, that is what i was getting at last time...

i didnt mean actually upgrading like shoes and drums, i mean taking rear trailing arms off of another civic and putting them on like redcivicracer did...

Let me tell you where you can stick your salt

Are drums better for autox? ....No. Wishful, compensatory thinking.

Are discs better then drums? ....Not performance wise. They are easier to service, stay adjusted better and look a damn sight better though.

Don't get anything for the 84-87 except the drums. Use your models pads, lines etc etc.
And the HF drums ain't cheap. Like $75 each the last time I checked Autozone.

More surface area= better braking...
Right?

And arent the drums on the civic duo servo (self adjusting)?

I don't know about surface area comparison between the two setups but performance wise, we're talking marginal differences.

Supposed to be self adjusting but they sometimes need a fix...more then discs ever do.

Why don't you call your local parts store and tell us.
