Just ask for tranny fluid that is compatible with your car

On a honda yeah you can walk in and get pretty much any normal ATF fluid but be careful. Most of those guys won't know dick about your car in particular. I nearly put fluid in an old eclipse I had that would have fried the tranny. Sometimes manufacturers make fluid that is specific to their transmissions, it does make a difference.

My advice is follow your owners manual, if you don't have one call a dealorship.

On a 98 accord you MUST use the Honda ATF other wise it won't shift right. You can use Dextron III as a temp replacment but don't leave it in there. It will damage the tranny. If left in there it will eat away at the clutch packs and destroy the torque converter and shift solenoids. Stick with the honda stuff.

I concur. I have exact same car and beleive me, I have done the research on the subject matter. In general, for HONDA, use Honda coolant, Honda motor oil, Honda Tranny fluid, Honda powersteering fluid. You will be one happy camper.

Honda auto tranny fluid definitely and maybe power steering, but coolant and oil shouldn't matter. Maybe you know something I don't

I've talked to guys at Honda dealorships and they run Castrol GTX in the engines and manual trannies, coolant shouldn't matter either.
