Borrow or rent a compressor, spend 29 dollars on a cheap spray gun at home dept, spent 30 dollars on laquer and hardner, and do a half decent job on it.

Your basically going to need one can for each part of the car. plus a few extra for hood, roof, and quarters. so id say... 12 in each step, so... 36 cans if you use primer, base, and clear..and at say 4 bucks a can your over 120 dollars for a real shitty paint job.

Yeah, if you're doing this in an attempt to improve the appearance of your car, you're in for a little disappointment.

 

dont be stupid and make yoru car look even more stupid. if you want your car to look nice, dont be and ***, take time and do it right. spend the next 3 days reading up on DIY paintjobs and for a fair price you can make your car look really nice and learn a lot.

 

I say prep it yourself (if you know how), then take it to a Macco that you have seen good paintwork come out of.


There are good painters at Macco.

 

rattle can PRIMER isn't the worst thing that can happen. 2 cans (I think) from wal-mart. We did this to protect a car from rust because of exposed metal.

Get it sanded well and get it painted with decent equipment however, otherwise you will be disappointed.

I have been reading up a lot and I've talked to people. I've found all the tools and equipment I need and I'm pretty sure I can do a good job on it. Plus, I don't plan on painting it this weekend anyway... It probably won't even be ready until this summer, and by then i'll probably have enough money for a pro job. I was just wondering how many cans it would take cuz I cant find anywhere online that has any suggestions.

SCC just did an article on this, but they painted the car flat black.

 

my friend told me about that... i looked on their site but they don't have the article online. unless i missed it.
do you know if it is online and i just overlooked it?

 

There was a person on here that did a rattle can paint job.. i'm sure there are a few more too. It didn't look all that bad. It's your car, do whatever you think would be better. If you think you've made a mistake by doing this, well.... at least you'll learn from this experience.

 

A guy here painted his ED hatch flat black w/ spray paint & it looked dope!

 

Try to look for the latest sports compact, I think it was that magazine. They took a brand new wrx sti and gave it a rattle job, I think they did a how to also.

I rattle canned my hood and it took 1 can of each (primer and Paint). I am guessing at least 5 cans of each for the entire car done as good as you can get w/ a rattle can .

i painted my side mirrors on my ed gloss black with a rattle can and they turned out good. but i would never rattle can my car.

 

6 cans of flatblack inside and out. 19 bucks

lol ive had a camo hood / roof and now ive seen 2 cars that have camo body parts.

 

i also painted my crx flat black with spray paint...

i did inside and out with 15 cans @ 99 cents each, cant beat that...
