Air cleaner element - '97 Honda Accord 4
Finally replaced the filter in our "new to us" Accord, one screw was hard to remove (was nearly frozen in place).
The element looked to be very old (Filtech Inc. , AE2, Honda, >PP~T<
I wonder if this is original ??
141K miles !!
The replacement was a Purolator 24873

What's the point of this thread? It's impossible to know whether or not the filter was the exact one that came from the factory. And I don't see why it would matter, as you have a new one in now.
There are several reasons for this thread.
One is the 140K miles on the filter and the nearly rusted in place screw at the filter housing.
140K miles may be a record..
Does anyone observe the brands of parts that are used in automobiles?? I am guessing , of course, that the Filtech is original.
The replacement was a Purolator..
But I do know that automobiles(Honda, VW, Saab - all of them) recieve some pretty pathetic care, if any care is given - then people wonder why breakdowns occur..

Um, well, 140,000 on an air filter isn't something I'd be proud of, though I understand that this car is new to you. Keep in mind that if the previous owner didn't bother to change the air filter, what else did he not do? I'd go through the maintenance list in your owner's manual and do literally everything listed to zero it out.
In my '99, the air filter is supposed to be changed every 30,000 miles, which I have done. The last one (just a couple of months ago) was, I think, "STP" brand from Autozone. $10 or $12.

It happens. When i used to work in the automotive industry as a tech, i used to see this alot... People don't maintain there cars....
If it's any consolation to you, you are not the only one.

Good response, Heat
The PO may have paid others to do the servicing - he refused to turn over the service records, but I was able to look at them, and I do have some copies..
Next task will be to change the ATF, then maybe the brake fluid.
Hondas do not seem to use "cabin filters".

Edit: Whoops, thanks Pyrojeff, I had my generations off by 1 for some reason. Anyway, yes, a '97 doesn't have a cabin filter, starting in '98 they did.

1998 would be 6th gen.

When I bought my 96 Accord I changed the filter and the screws were rusty. The filter looked like it was recently cleaned and I got full services records with the sale. I got my Accord with 60K miles for 5K. I think that is a steal. I replaced the filter with a K&N.
