That's exactly how to do it...
..but that light doesnt mean you have to change your oil...If it did then it would come on every 3,000 miles right?...But it doesnt....It's more for the annual checkups....I may be wrong but I believe it comes on at 5,000 or 10,000..then again at 30,000 for sure....then 50,000....then 100,000......

The light comes on every 8000,18000,28000, etc etc. it's a reminder to go do your maintenance. after the maintenance is performed, you're supposed to reset it.
it's time to go change your oil. it's not every 3000miles. it's every 10,000miles for normal conditions and every 5,000 miles for severe conditions. read your manual.

10,000 miles for an oil change?....Damm...I dont even want to know the condition of your motor..Unless your a 70+ grandma/pa that doesnt drive his car like it should be driven...then yeah....i can see a 10,000 mile oil change....I'm sorry to say but even 5,000 miles without an oil change is pushing it to the limit for me....But I guess its everyones own preference....I just choose to change mines every 3,000 mi.....

The reason the maintenance light is there is to remind you about service. It's mostly a cash-cow for Honda dealerships because commoners who know nothing about the light will bring in their cars right away.
In turn when they bring in their car, Honda will recommend service as they see fit (IE: brake services, tunes ups, etc.). However the Maint. Light should be reset every time you have an oil change done at a Honda/Acura dealership (atleast that's how we run things).
