Default short ram intake question

A couple friends of mine said that shortenin the arm of an intake would yield for a better response. I am talking about shortening the leanth of a short ram intake to about half its leanth. This may be a dumb question but it has me curious to find out if they are correct.

The intake is designed by engineers through research and design. Just curious as to why they would think that making it shorter would make it better??

The only real reason to go from a CAI to a short ram or vice-versa is to get a little mid-range spike with the effects of harmonics. The CAI gives you a nice bump in the mid-range (my Type R had a 8-10 hp spike at around 4,000 rpms because of it). The short ram may give you a hair more in the top-end according to tests done by Sgt and others on the R forum, but it is minor if best.

The filter is really what makes the difference, not the length of the short ram.

Just my worthless opinion ..........

Thanks for the info. With that being said what would be your choice on a filter and why?

K&N is pretty much the standard of the industry, and they already come on the AEM stuff.

Once again, we're talking about 1-2 horsepower difference at best for the difference.

You will get more power out of tuning your fuel and timing curves on a stock car than by adding a filter or changing the intake from short ram to CAI.
