After market lsd clicking.
Took apart my friends itr tranny and it has an ats or spoon diff. The car made a clicking noise will turning at all speeds. At lower speeds it felt like the alxes were slipping, like jumping the teeth on the slpines. We replaced the axles with new aftermarket and new oem axles. We also changed the halfshaft(midshaft). Is the Diff the only thing that could be messed up. Tranny shifted fine and the car launched fine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks ROB

I may have been mislead but I was told that a 1.5 way would click/make noise while turning. I have been reading up on lsds and I haven't read anything about noises while turning. I don't know I'd feel bad if its the tranny and not the lsd. He already bought a quaife and its about to go in. I don't think an aftermarket lsd like spoon or ats would make noises like that. But you never know. We didn't try changing fluid types. Anyway someone get back to me about a 1.5 way make any noise.
i have a kaaz lsd and i use the kaaz 80w-90 oil. it clicks also, even more when i had honda transmission fluid.
a few shops have confirmed that the clicking sound is normal, so im not concerned.

The clicking noise you hear is the clutch in the LSD slipping. when turning one wheel turns faster than the other. so the lsd is put in a bind of sorts. so the thing that has to give is the clutchs in the lsd. GM offers a limited slip additive for their lsd's it will work in anything. we put it in auto transmissions that have torque converter shudder. try that additive along with the recommended fluid and it will probably quieten down the lsd tremendously.

well its not really normal, either
1. Out of align
2. Clutches weren't broken in properly
3. Clutches are worn in the diff
4. Wrong fluid - Kaaz fluid has special additives

you are correct the lsd is suppose to distribute the power to both sides. However about the clutches slipping when one wheel is turning faster then the other, isn't all true. I know when I make sharp turns from a stop (and the lsd is working correctly, car aligned, etc.) the inner tire chirps throughout the turn, therefore not being the clutches slipping.
