94 RS w/ 193k
hey everyone- ive owned this car for over two years now since i was 16. it have 193k miles on it with 80% being highway from the previous owner.
my dilema is that the car is in GREAT condition inside and out and i want a new car but im afraid that i wont be able to get more than a couple grand for it.
what would you guys/gals do if you were me? budget it limited due to getting ready to go to college next year and have a part-time job.
would you rebuild this B18B (non-vtec) engine? if so, what is involved in this and how much $$$? would it be as reliable as a new engine?
i would like to either rebuild or get another B18B (and turbo it eventually)
or a lower milage GSR swap?
what is your opinion on my situation?? thanks for your help
lets throw a 3g limit (give or take a few) on it

you probally won't get much more if you rebuild an engine. I know many people are a little hesitant to buy a modded car over a high milage stocker.

oh, ok. Sorry, misread your post. yeah, it'll definately be most likely more reliable. You can get a rebuilt or completely different engine for a failrly reasonable price. Check out http://www.hmotorsonline.com or http://www.passwordjdm.com for great deals on engines and stuff, if you're lookin to replace or do an upgrade. If not, I'm sure there's great mechanics in your area or even you might do the rebuild depending on your skill.

Why not save up while you drive it, when it breaks you will have the money for whatever setup you want. Do a compression and leakdown test to see what kind of condition the motor is in. Why waste money when you have a perfectly good motor? Mileage means nothing if the car is maintained well.
At 193k (most being highway in this case) the car is barely broken in. I'd personally keep it as is for a daily driver. I'm assuming since you're heading to college soon, you won't be working much. That being said, I'd take the cash you currently have and invest in a nice tune up if you haven't done so. Check everything (or have a mechanic do it) before you leave for school as well (tires, brakes, fluids, etc etc) assuming you'll be a good distance from home. I agree with what furious94ls had to say, why spend you money if you don't have to.

actually i will be working quite a bit - i have a great job in which im friends with the owner and if things work out - ill be made manager and making a salary of $22-23k a year. in addition i will also be staying at home for at least the first year
so a pretty general consensus that i should just drive it until something happens?
the thing is, i really kinda want a newer car. WRX, S2000, ITR ect... and what im afraid of is the longer i drive my teg the less ill get for it when time comes to sell. dont get me wrong, i love my teg but i want something faster

The mechanic I went to for my old car said around 1500 for a new block and install.

wouldnt i need more than just that for a good rebuild? so id be looking at around $2000 - so it would almost make more sense if i just bought another B18B for like 1500 and had it installed
