Default Automatic Civic need help with gears.

Not looking to get flamed but I hope someone can answer this simple question.

I recently picked up a 2000 civic lx with auto tranny, I have never driven an automatic car before ( learned and still drive 100% stick). My question is this... since the car didnt come with an owners manual I was wondering what the different gears are in drive mode.

They are D4/D3/2. Can someone answer what each gear is used for? and which one is for normal driving?

Thanks,
Mig

D4 is normal driving. It has an "overdrive" function, or essentially a 4th gear that is used to save gas at higher cruising speeds. D3 is used when driving up hill or whenever you feel the car constantly shifting between 3rd and 4th. And D2 is a lower gear that can be used when added engine braking is needed. ie. traveling down a steep hill and you don't want to over heat your brakes.

Sucks having an auto huh?
