Default Alarms

I have a 04 accord with the stock alarm. i heard that it doesn't do crap unless you open a door or the hood while it's armed; no proximity sensing, etc... can anyone suggest a good alarm that'll keep my car safe? i gave my sister my 95' accord with a barracuda alarm and it sucks (i should've expected the poor quality from a $60 alarm). i'm willing to pay up to (maybe a little over) $300.

Clifford alarms or DEI (same company now) I have installed many Clifford and DEI alarms like the Intelligaurd 6000, 7000, 8000, AG-4, Python, Viper, etc. Options include:

2-stage shock sensors
glass break sensor
tilt sensor (if you car is being towed)
proximity sensors
remote start
remote window modules

Just depends on how much you are willing to pay.....

i'm willing to pay on or around $300 for a decent alarm that'll just do it's job. just something that has good proximity sensors and good range.

go with a clifford g4 alarm, will pay for itself over time, trust me. I have the solaris 4 installed in my car and it comes with blackjax, where u have to enter a pin code in order to drive each time or else it will die 10 seconds later in the middle of the road. it is very costly if u get a professional to install it, i paid $700 for mines to be professionally done.

try the compustar system. I have had 2 of them and it works up to 1.25 miles away and tells you what is happening with your car. It will fully shut down your electrical system.

Clifford is good. I had one on my civic. Added remote start as well. Worked flawlessly and was installed very well. Bought and installed for around $500.

wouldn't be a good idea, besides compatability issue, unless it is from the same alarm company and is offered as an add on module

Yeah, I had the clifford alarm and got a different remote start integrated into the clifford. It can be done. It wasn't hard either and I had no compatibilty issues. Not to mention it cost considerbly less to go that route than add a clifford remote start unit.

You can use remote start with a manual transmission as well.

The guy's who installed it didn't seem to think so. They even integrated it so that I could use the clifford key fob to start the car. It worked exactly like a clifford remote start unit except that it wasn't.

There Illegal for a 5spd. No shops will install it for you due to safety reasons.

You could probably get a friend to finish the job for u... but other then that.. ITS ILLEGAL.

Thats why i had to resale my Viper alarm with the remote starter... because no shops would take the risk to install it.

But there are ways u can BYPASS the R/S...

WTF? It's not illegal here. All the shops I went to could and would install it in a manual car.

I got my alarm system from ebay for $59 for my 96 Accord LX in Jan.04 and with some help I installed it myself. It is true that the installation process is way more important than alarm itself. It's been almost a year now and everything still works.

You will need the ignition wiring diagram, some diodes, relays and in-line fuse to begin with. If you want to remotely open the trunk lid, you also need to get the power trunk kit too.(I got the kit from ebay for $19 including shipping)
PS. Actually the only thing you need is the 15 pound solenoid for the power trunk.

If you get one with remote starter like mine, you also need a pin switch for the engine bay so that when the hood is open the remote starter won't work, for safty reason.

It feels really good when all the four keys of the alarm fob actually works. (armed/unarmed/trunk open/remote start)
