Opinions on Exedy organic clutch?
I'm looking for a clutch before I swap in my new transmission. I'm really kind of looking at the Exedy Organic kit mostly because of the price ($240 shipped), and because I really don't want to go with just a stock replacement. I've heard a couple people say that Exedy's quality isn't all it's cracked up to be, they wear out fast, and are known to break hub springs.
The Clutch Specialties stage 2 HD kit was also recommended as a damn good kit for the money, but it also carries a bigger price tag, $350 shipped.
So Exedy organic? CS stage 2 hd? What about a CS stage 1?

ACT's not really an option due to the price.
I'd like to stay under $300, but the CS stage 2 isn't out of the picture.

The ACT clutch I got from an HT member that posted it for sale in the classifieds, the Clutch Specialties I got from "MrHeelToe" an HT sponsor.

I'd say you got a heck of a deal! heel-toe is where I'd be getting the clutch specialties, but they don't seem to offer act at all anymore. (maybe why you got yours so cheap!)

I got the CS clutch from "MrHeelToe" for $275, I went and picked it up myself. Does he not sell them at that price anymore?

Say, while we are on the subject of Exedy clutches, I had a question about mines.
I have a 91 LS tranny which I am running with my built B18C, and I guesstimate that I am putting down around 175-180 WHP. Will a Exedy clutch for a 91 LS hold that much power? I only ask because lately, I've noticed a weird smell coming from the car whenever I do do some WOT runs. I burned the crap out of my old Civic Si's clutch when I was driving up the hills in San Fran, and the smell was similar to that but not as strong.

The exedy organic is supposed to give a 32% increase in holding capacity over stock. I don't have a specific rating for you though.

Yup that's whatthe seller told me too. But I dont think it's enough for the amount of power I'm putting down. I just bought it cause it was a good price. If my math is correct the the Exedy for the 91 LS is good for around 170 HP to the fly. I'm probably closer to 200-210 HP to the fly with my setup.

Well, I have a stock LS motor with i/e in my CRX, so I don't think I'll have a problem with it.
Getting back to the topic though, does anybody have any experience with the Exedy or Clutch Specialties clutches?

$335 shipped for a new ACT clutch, but it doesn't say what it's for so I asked.

I've used the Exedy Organic clutch in my DSMs, and they are great. You must realize that the clutch will wear out faster if you abuse it or put more power through it then it is designed to handle. The organic is intended for those cars that will see a few race days a year, but mostly street driving. The load capacity increase is ment for cars with basic bolt ons, not "built" motors or forced induction.
If you beat on your car or have alot of go-fast bits, then do your transmission and wallet a favor and get the correct clutch.

of course I'd *like* to add all kinds of ****, but realistically, probably not any time soon. I need my rust fixed, car painted, header and cat, nicer wheels, brake work, etc. before I worry about anything else "performance." That'll take me a good couple years at the rate I've been going.
I think that performace wise, the exedy organic should be a good choice. I've just heard a couple complaints about quality.

im running an exedy organic on my turbo b16, im putting down 200ish to the wheels easily and i havent had any problems with this clutch, i would say my driving habits are normal driving with the occasional floor it and pass someone.
i wasnt going to get the exedy, until i help put a lsd in my freinds turbo 00 si, we pulled his tranny off, and his 2 year old exedy looked brand new,
so it held his turbo car for 2 years and it looked brand new, and its holding up against my turbo b16a so far without any problems, i would of bought the cerametallic since i want more power, but they didnt make one for my application.
If you go with exedy, i got mine from morepowerracing.com for 265 shipped if i remember correctly
