well, i really want to buy a diesel for next season, but i also really want to finish on the podium at least once next year (managed a 6th this time around in qual), so the $ that was going to the diesel truck is now going into the car.
one of the benefits of diesel engines is the ease of which you can upgrade the power and fuel efficiency of the motor. i'm not aware of anything that effective for gasoline burning engines. my guess is that there aren't any, and that the same things that help little 4cyl engines run efficiently would help a big V8 (breathing modifications and A/F tuning). am i missing anything here?
ps......buy my integra!

I think some of the programmers available for gasoline motors can increase fuel milage (maybe 1-2 mpg) and power, but the downside is that most of them require the use of permium unleaded due to timing changes in the reflash. So whatever you just saved in milage, you just put back with more expensive gas.

Drive slower. Anything much above 70mph in my big block Suburban and I could practically see the needle move. A lot of this depends on what axle you've got...mine was the worst of all 4:10.
Also, run your tires at max pressure. It'll ride a little harder but it really makes a difference in your mpg.
Apparently the Borla exhaust the previous owner of my Suburban put on made a hell of a difference, but that's not a "cheap" fix.
With today's motors with distributorless ignition and all that, I don't think there's much in the way of free performance adders.
--Karl, who thinks you should still just get a diesel...you'll be glad you did...

i have a Exploder 4.0 L V6 and I add the STP better Gas milage and that improves my gas milage to 20-25 MPG not bad for a Gas guzzler but I haven't towed with yet
i think part of the reason you can upgrade most diesels so easily because they are mostly all turbo's......
My evo is turbo and can pick up an 50hp-75hp with more boost and some timing and air fuel tuning......similar... my F250 is a diesel and can pick up 100hp , 200lb ft of torque with one of those banks 6 guns, or edge, or whatever..... (6.0L vs 2.0L = bigger gains).
I can't think of any non turbo diesel to even look up any performance parts for.

kinda off topic...but does anyone on this board have the 6.6 liter duramax?? by the way im selling this truck https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1069066 to get the 3500 duramax diesel dually
Not to really high-jack, but is everyone else experiencing astronomical diesel prices? Like $2.35+ per gallon? I remember when Premium Gas was $2.10ish and diesel was around $1.65-1.80. Now Premium is still the same and Diesel is at the $2.35+ mark around here. What gives? Is Diesel not less refined and lower on the chain of Crude Oil refinement? What am I missing?

Yes. Diesel has gone up $1.00 per gallon in 10 months in the Seattle area. When I bought my truck last September, diesel was $1.50 a gallon. Now it's more expensive than Premium.
