Thats right - last night after 17000 miles it finally went...
Cracked the entire wall
BTW - it had nothing to do with A/F or Detonation - just pressure...
sorry for the quality of the pics - its late - ill take some more tomorrow:
and the whole thing:

you're probably well aware that the crack may have been weakening over time until it just failed.
describe your driving habits, do you drive aggresively? do you keep it in boost for long preiods. (more than 20 seconds.)

yes i am aware - but the question has been raised many times of just how much the stock sleeves can handle - the limit is about 1bar daily for 6 months... I dont drive too agressively and make occasional visits to the 1/4 mile track. I too was wondering the same question about the stock sleeves - now i have found the answer...
until you thoroughly examine the pistons, etc...there is a possibility that it had been worn down because of bad tuning. hell, i ran my D16Z6 at 10psi-1.0 bar for a year before it blew, and at that, i spun a rod bearing at 145mph, while i had been at full boost at 1.0 bar for a good 40 seconds...the sleeves stayed perfectly in tact. i drove that ************ like mad, every day, and gave it hell 24/7

na the tuning was fine - it was running rich if anything. it was pressure...
i drove mine everyday too - i boosted 1.0 bar daily (no less) and occasionally 1.25 at the track - i was making just under 400whp @ 15psi

yikes!! 15 PSI on stock sleeves and internals? you're probably right the excessive pressure just wore down the sleeves till they cracked. I though you were running low boost or something, I only know very few people that run more than 9 PSI on stock Honda sleeves.

na - the blockgaurd would have only let the pressure balloon below it - crack might not have been as severe - but as you can see there was basically no stopping it...
i have run 15psi on stock internals on a sohc motor. The b-series can handle 15psi without much problem stock..with a good headgasket (inlinepro) a b16a can handle 22psi.
most stock honda sleeves can handle 20psi before breaking. My guess is you had some detination and it broke. Or a stress crack...something.

that looked exactly like my old LS block, pistons were fine, only one cylinder wall cracked. What fuel management were you running, what timing were you set at and what kinda of gas do you run on 15lbs?

there was no detonation - and like i said i was running rich when it went...
my point wasnt that it happens instantly at 15psi... it was however that at 15psi daily over 17000 miles this is the reaction of stock sleeves...

over time and pressure, things start breaking. Nothing can prevent wear and tear except a feather light foot - and what's the fun in that. Block looks fixable though, I think Golden Eagle can fix you up nicely
failure from just pressure is right if you had no detonation, but wrong - cylinders will just let go like that from incorrect timing - you want power stroke to begin at 12 degrees ATDC, if it is before that point you cylinder pressures can be close to the same as those found during detonation. you must know your cars total timing and remove the knock retard module out of your distributor if you run an ignition - otherwise they both fight each other.

I don't think it's a matter of just the amount of boost.. There are plenty of people pushing 20+ psi and barely break 350whp. Another 50 whp is alot more power. I don't know anyone else that runs 400whp daily driven that has a lead foot, so you can't make a comparison between most other cars. Stock sleeves are tiny afterall so it's no surprise they couldn't take the abuse.
