Need help w/ ignition switch ASAP
I know there are two parts to the ignition switch - electrical portion and mechanical portion. What is the difference and how do you know if just one or if both parts need to be replaced? When I search for an ignition switch online I can only find the electrical portion, so I'm not even sure where to get the mechanical. Does anyone know anything about this?
Thanks
Thanks
The mechanical portion is the actual ignition cylinder.
I doubt you will need to replace that unless you jammed a screwdriver
in there or something

Okay, I just wasn't too sure what exactly the mechanical portion was for. I mean nothing is broken, the key turns and the engine starts, but when I let go of the key and it turns back, the engine dies. I think its probably just the electrical part that I need to replace which is only like $50. At the place I took my car they were going to order it from Honda which included both the electrical and mechanical for like $300 plus labor, which i dont feel like paying. So i'm just gonna try to do this myself first and hope it works.
i git the lock and key at napa and the electrical part at autozone spec order but mine was for 92 i guess i should of took some time and saw what your car was o well trying to help lmao
Hey I had same problem...I had to do it twice because the one I bought after my lude was stolen did exactly what your talking about.
....Go to the junkyard and get the whole assembly from the console. It's a pain to unbolt but not to bad (Use a screwdriver and a hammer and gently tap to loosen the bolts..
Just unplug it from the harness under the dash. I paid $35 bucks I beleive. Then put the bad boy in. It's a pain but should only take most of a saturday including running around for the stuff.
and yeah nofx rocks
