I was having idle problems on my b16a in a eg.
When you get off the gas the rpm would go down to 1500 rpm
and then when I stop the rpm would go down to normal.
I thought it was the IACV so I took it off and cleaned the
screen. It helped a little bit. It would go to 1500 rpm
and then slowly go down to normal. But if you blip the throttle
it would go down to 1500 rpm and then slowly go down to normal.
I saw that my temp. gauge was going 1/4 up from C, so I never
thought about the thermostat.
Well it is getting cold now and I notice my gauge was moving all
over the place. It would also take forever to warm the car up.
The gauge would be 1/4 up from C and then when I start driving it
would go down to C. And then if I let it sit it would go up to almost
half. But when I started moving it would go dwon again.
So I changed my thermostat and notice the temp. gauge went up to
almost halfway when it was fully warmed-up. Warm-up is much quicker too.
Gauge is not moving at all too. I also notice that my idle
is working like it should. When I get off the gas the rpm
drops to 1000 rpm while coasting and then 750 rpm when at a stop.
No hesitating at 1500 any more.
I also notice that i was having really bad gas milage. I think it
should fix that too.
I guess all this time my car was not warming up to get out of
cold engine state and that was the culprit to the idle problem, and
the bad gas milage. Now if I can fix my 3rd gear grind it would be done.
Hope this helps somebody with there idle problems.

I had somewhat of the same problem with mine, replaced the thermostat and it's working better now.

That part's funny. Just as soon as you think it's done, something else breaks on the POS. I know how you feel though. One thing after another
