A possible swap for crx(automatic) and keeping it automatic
Hey guys, I have a B20Z from recently wrecked CRV and I just got an LS automatic transmission free from a junkyard. (Yes my dad owns it) Will it be possible to swap this automatic transmission in my crx dx and keep it auto? I would like to keep it automatic so it would make a good daily driver. I drive about 15 miles thru traffic everyday. So actually it would make it more convenient. Thanks guys for the help!

not really too sure... this topic has been covered before... so pls search... but IMO the b-series auto shift linkage might be longer... if you can customize that to a shorter one, it should be possible...

wait you did say you got a automatic tranny crx right now????
if so the mount shouldnt be hard since you got it... but if you can custom fab the linkage you should be set... bTW WELCOME TO H-T

Yeah, I really can have this linkage customized. It may take time, but I really want to have it running by next month. Also, where can I find a transmission mount for an auto B-series? All the ones I see them make are only for manuals. would I have to do a custom job on this??

most likely you will have to customfab a new mount since they dont make kits....i am thinking maybe you can just use an auto tranny mount from the 90-93 tegs and just customfab that into the rex....

Haha, cool I will... I have to find a 90-93 teg tranmission motor mount first, though. I can't wait to start this project. Oh, and I heard wiring a DX will be fun as hell!! Damn it!!!

But won't it be fun to have a 14 second AUTOMATIC Honda in the 1/4 as a good daily driver? Yeah, I know every other person out there has a manual honda and but I just plan to at least build this automatic LS here I have. I'd like to try at least being unique at the import scene. I know at least every guy around here in Bartow, FL has manual honda and races it at the 1/8 mile strip we have here. Like I said, I'd like to be a little different. Also, I think it would be pretty cool to beat some of the manual hondas around here who could never even manage a 10 in the 1/8th mile. If I can make an auto honda break into the 9's consistantly or even barely 8's in the 1/8th, a lot of guys would thinks its really hot. Plus I know a 9 second run in the 1/8th is like a 14 sec pass in the quarter and an 8 in the 1/8th is equivalent to a mid 12 second pass in the 1/4. Yes, I do know a little bit about drag racing.

I'm not questioning your knowledge.
There's just a reason that there aren't many 14 second Auto hondas... and that's that most of them blow up. Also, you do have to have an Auto ECU to be able to control the revs and not kill the tranny. If you really wanna do this, you could buy an auto B16A swap with the auto ECU, they're far cheaper than manual B16As. Automatic hondas just don't put down the power... and think about your clutch pack, and TQ converter. You'll have to pay an insane amount to get a high stall auto converter, and then that'll only shave 2 tenths off of your time. It's just insanely more complicated and more of a money pit. I'm just being the voice of reason here.

Well, my dad right now, as we speak, just made up his mind that he would support my hobby since I am doing a LOT of work for him. Its just I'd like to have a faster, more reliable crx. The motor I am salvaging has only 50k miles on it and the ls transmission has only 75k. So, now, would it be possible to use the crv torque converter in the ls transmission in order to for the ls trans to hold more power from the b20z? Also, if they sell any, I'd like to get some transmission upgrade kits in order for the tranny to handle even more power, just in case I go with a forced induction setup and/or nitrous. I heard great things about Level 10. What do you guys think??

That's awesome! Just be aware that this is uncharted territory here... not many people can help you. You might want to ask the integra guys how they've beefed up their trannys... but beware that the guys over there that build autos do so only because they can't afford a GSR swap. There was a Honda-Tuning magazine awhile back that had a nice Civic with an Auto GSR motor in it... nice car, but even he complained about the futility of Autos. He was handicapped, so he had to get one. If you mind is made up though, check out the Drag Racing forum, the Teg forum, and whatever else you can think of.
Good Luck.

well put, but your gonna find out that its not worth the hassle and time that your gonna have to put into this project, just get your 90-93 ls motor and a first gen b16 tranny and you will be running 14's all day in a crx if you learn to drive good, driving a stick is so easy, it just takes about a day of practice......trust me its waaay better, if automatic driving was better then alot of people would have done it allready.....

anyways i think im with everyone else on this one , i really dont think its worth the hassle , but these are just our opinions , if thats what u really want to do go for it , it will be different

Well hey guys, I found a 90-93 Integra transmission motor mount on ebay. I hope this works in aiding my installation process. This will hopefully make it easier to fabricate it in to my crx automatic. I will post some pics if I can get a camera ready. Actually I would have to by one first.
I hope I can possibly find more information on this rather complex swap.
BUMP it up!!

I doubt an integra mount will help at all unless you plan to cut, notch, and weld your own brackets... You could just be a normal person and call HASport and ask what they've got...

no need to get hostile. i'm simply saying it wouldnt be so bad for this person to have a manual trans. Its fairly easy to get a good hang of it

There is one other possible issue that nobody has mentioned here. And that is the physical size of a B-series automatic transmission. Not only are there going to be mounting issues. But there could be clearance issues as well, as the automatic transmission is ALOT bigger than the manual transmission. And a B-series swap is already a somewhat tight fit into an ED/EF. Simply put, I don't know that an automatic transmission will even fit into the engine bay without modifications (ie cutting and welding) to the frame rails themselves. You might want to look into this.
Also keep in mind that a stock (or fairly stock) B20 with an automatic will probably not run even close to 14's. Doing this with a manual transmission is actually not as easy as you might think. It takes some skill - it won't just run 14's all day long regardless of what you do (think running 14's with a B16A swap). And automatic transmissions suck up alot of power (ie less WHP for a given crank HP compared to a manual).

So is anyone able to put a manual and automatic trans side by side? I really just wanna see the difference. So if this setup in a crx does not run 14's, would it maybe run at least a respectable low 15's@9x.x mph? That would be better than most of the ricers we have here with manual trans. I know for a fact that anything higher than 16's out in Bradenton for Honda's is really looked down upon. Same as it is in the 1/8th mile we have here in Lakeland. If anyone runs above 10's in the 1/8th, it will be looked down upon. I really am willing to do custom fabrication for this trans to fit. It will make me stand out in the Honda crowd we have here. LOL a girl with a FAST automatic Honda. Any other input would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Automatic transmissions are not too popular around here. So I would seriously doubt that anyone here would be able to put them side by side to take a picture. I would suggest that you take a trip to your local salvage yard to see for yourself. Here in CA, 1990-1993 LS Integras are just starting to be seen in self-service type yards. And due to the lower desirability of automatic drivetrains, most of them are automatic. And I am not kidding when I say that an automatic B-series transmission is huge. Take a look for yourself.
As for quarter mile times, you might run low to mid 15's if you are lucky. But I don;t know about 90MPH trap speeds. My manual 1989 B20Z Civic HB only traps at about 92MPH. And with an automatic, you are going to trap several MPH below this.

Hahaha, my friend let me take a chance on trying to drive her manual Nissan 300ZX Turbo and I kept on ****** stalling it. WTF?? Is it really this hard to learn how to drive stick?? God, its like, sooo sooo hard! How could you guys catch on without stalling it on every light. People kept on honking and **** and I got all nervous. I only kinda know how to drive stick when I am shifting from 1st to 2nd, and so on, but off the line, I am all around terrible. When I give it a little gas like she says, I ****** spin the tires like hell and I got all worried about like getting pulled over. Honestly guys, how long will it take to learn this? Is there like a trick or technique you have to learn in order not to either stall it, or squeal the tires? Please give me some more info. Thanks.
