Default Are Exedy clutches any good

I'm looking for a clutch that is a street performance clutch that has more holding power than a stock clutch and smooth operation is important. Exedy has a nice selection of clutches the cermatalic sounds good. Dose anybody have one, how dose it work, and what should I pay.

I have heard some horror stories about exedy clutches, do a search and you will see the ones I'm talking about.

I'm a huge fan of Exedy. I used their clutchs in my DSMs without fail. The key is buying the correct clutch combination with your setup.

I've had/seen personally some really bad ACT issues.

Exedy is made by Daikin, who also makes the Honda OEM clutches. The base Exedy clutch is around $100 and an excellent choice for regular bolt ons. It is not a "performance" clutch, just a slightly better then OEM replacement. I've used three on different vehicles now.

They have a performance line...they're more expensive, comparable to the ACT stuff. It's also a quality piece. This one will handle the turbo/nitrous/drag launches...the cheap one will not. I had one on my old mini-me...it was overkill for that application but it felt near stock and was daily driveable. My Mom even drove it once while I was helping them move and she didn't complain about it.
"some" people buy the cheap one and then bad mouth the company when it fails on their boost addled civic....retards.

i have an exedy triple plate in my r32. beefy.

i recommend a carbon disc (or discs) as it only makes the clutch work better the hotter it gets.

wow, what a coincidence...I was just going to start searching for topics about exedy clutches.

I really haven't researched at all on clutches, and have always used OEM clutches...but want something a little bit more now.

DOHC ZC swap going in soon (89 crx si), along with a 50 shot......so I assumed that I should go ahead and upgrade the clutch for the additional power.

Is there a certain Exedy clutch i should keep an eye out on for my setup? What do you guys reccomend for my setup?

-Cody

It's really a preference. If you want something thats going to feel like a stock clutch, go with Exedy's Hyper Single clutch- http://www.nolimitmotorsport.c....html

But like I said, it's all about preference. Look through them and decide for yourself- http://www.nolimitmotorsport.com/exedy/

I heard that ACT pressure plates get the big
I heard that they were made by satan.
I heard they use clutch disc ceters from used/worn clutches and only mounted new friction material to it.

I have an exedy clutch kit bought for 100 bucks. grabs harder than oem, inexpensive and is pretty nice.
Question: When I bought the kit, I asked the veteran track guy who sold it to me if it would hold up to the extra 10-20 hp from intake, headers and exhaust, he said it was cool, and I've had no problems/slippage. I'm doing a z6 swap soon, anyone used a d15b2 clutch kit on a z6? how'd it hold up? for how long? thanks

i am totaly sold on exedy clutches. i have had my exedy in my car for over 3 years of everyday track and street race abuse and it has not sliped one time and still breaks the tires loose into 4th gear. ACT gets a huge thumbs down in my book. me and a friend of mine both had ACT's in our other cars and the splines would strip out in 1000 miles.
