Default Give me your opinions on the condition of this block

I'm looking to purchase this soon through a HT member for a great price.
Are the hairlines normal? (mostly seen on the back of the block)
It's a b16a2 from a Si, roughly 50k miles.

When asked about the hairlines the seller told me it is normal casting wear.

You tell me.

Thanks.

Hairline cracks is normal. I don't think they are really cracks, all my blocks had em, they looks more like cast markings of some sort.

Also still see the crosshatch markings on the walls. Also seems like it gets its regular oil change, or he or she just cleaned up the oil pickup really good.

HOWEVER, in the 2nd picture, lower right hand corner of the block, is that a real chunk missing from the block??

You can't find a better B16 shortblock?

Why not go LS/VTEC?

Then look for a running, low mileage longblock and sell your head if you're in a tight corner. Quickest way to get it running.

Buy a b16a from hmotors for 600 + shipping
You used the block and your b16a2 head.
Sell the b16a head on ebay.
More work, block for about the same price.

A LS shortblock and B16 shortblock are pretty comparable in price, so a LS/VTEC setup wouldn't be too hard to setup.

Die.
