the honda supplied tranny oil will thickin up when cold. you must drive it for a while until it warms up so be easy on it. synthetic oil may help.my 00' has redline mt-90. and was a improvement when cold. but the '05s have carbon fiber synchros, and may not like syn oil.

it's normal. let the car warm up... ... make sure you have 3 bars before you start to aggresively drive the car... no vtec till 3 bars..

its somewhat normal in our cars. i haven't ran into that so maybe i am lucky? just don't drive hard when its cold. another option is to let the car warm up before you take off

if you shift with too much force, and not enough finesse, it WILL grind.

exactly. thats why i shift slow and cautiously when the tranny is cold. people think i'm crazy but they have no idea how fragile the s2k tranny is.

I seem to have similar problems but not just when its cold. at first i thought it was just me needing to get used to my car but i have had it now for a year and it still grinds. it doesnt matter what temp the engine is at and it doesnt seem to matter if im driving hard or not. actually it seems to happen more when im feathering it. sometimes i need to push the clutch to the floor to get it in .. and it still grinds

Sounds like it could be the clutch, gears or syncros.

1-2 gear clash is a common s2k issue. double clutching may help. have you changed you tranny oil, or clutch fliud?

O.K. I went back and re-read your first post. take it back to the dealer. a new '05 should not have a 1-2 clash like the old ones do. they changed the trannys in'04. now if it gets better when it gets warmed up then it it may be normal. I use redline mt-90 in mine 00' with 22k and it helped. go to s2ki.com and try a search. Good luck with it

i'm having a problem w/ my 02. not when its cold, cuz i dont even drive it until it warms up to @ least 2 bars...but when i'm @ high rpm in 1st, and make the shift to 2nd, it grinds sometimes. i heard this happended quite a bit w/ 02-03 trannys, but there was never a TSB for it. Any body got some advice for me, i switched to gm syncromesh too...and still no fix

some guy told me u should even shift it fast from first to second on s2k, i posted something like this also just a few hours ago. It happens to me every morning. I drive for like 2 miles, Get on the freeway, drive like 2 miles, and when im off the free way it stops. So its just the car getting warmed up, or when u got the car, u were pushing the car from first to second and it saw some problems. Ive shifted fast from 1 to 2 and now i stop cuz ive grinned a few times.

are you sure you mean "notchy" instead of grind? some people confuse these words.

the s2000 transmission is naturally notchy, especially when cold.
