Default rings on forged pistons does it take longer for them to seat

i just put in a set of 9 to 1 forged pistons in my gsr block and they still have not seated. my motor smokes only when i down shift or get on it, is that the rings not seated or is it in the head. the block has been hoaned etc.. any advice would be great

If you're deceling on the downshift (just wanted to be sure, considering some of the info witholdingness on some of the threads), it's valve guides and/or valve guide seals. Blue smoke on accel is oil rings (after the first few seconds). A piston with excessive rock can also do this. What ptw clearance are you running?

its a black smoke and leaves black **** on the back of my hatch. so im thinking valve seals, because i did a comp test and its 150 all across. so hopefully its the valve seals because i already bought another head and this one im giving it a valve job. i just throught this head on not looking it over or anything.

and i have 1700 miles on the motor so far

If its a black smoke it sounds like your too rich. Excess fuel burns black while oil burns white/blue.

and excess rich means you probably washing the cylinder walls down with gasoline and probably will never have the rings seat if its been like that since day 1.
