Default jdm d15b vtec into crx.....having problems

we put a jdm d15b vtec motor into an 89 dx crx. what distributor are we supposed to use? we can't use the one that came with the motor because its obd1 and the wiring harness is obd0.

we used the crx si distributor, but that still didn't fit right. the car turns on and drives, but the ignition timing is all the way back to the TDC line. so i'm thinking that is about 8 degrees or so. we can't set the timing back to normal because we can't move the distributor anymore. we already cut one of the slots on the distributor to get it to work and have tried to advance the timing back to normal, but we can't.

any suggestions?

i had to slot all three legs of mine you can swap the internals of the obd0 dist. to the obd1 housing. just pay good attention to how it all comes out. i'll find the thread showing how mine is on and get it to you.

is there anyone using the distributor that came with the motor or you won't be able to use that one?

can you use the vtec dizzy and just wire it up?

to use that dist. you'll need to go obd1. i've been told that you can swap out dist. internals but i think that may only be between obd1 and obd2. you would also have to use an obd1 ecu.

yeah...but isn't the conversion harness just for the ecu? i know i would have to do that, but what i'm wondering is how you can use the obd1 dizzy on the crx. the plugs don't match up.

would i have to rewire the whole car to obd1?

I just did this swap not to long ago in my HF and I got a p28 ecu, a z6 dizzy and wired the whole car obd 1. Its not that hard if you know how to do the wiring.

Ive got a p28 ecu, and a z6 dizzy, and a harness from a 92-95 civic hatch( with the d16z6 motor) Will everything just plug right in?

i did the jdm d15b vtec swap into my crx this last summer. I bought the motor and the obd1 ecu. then i bought the jdmshit.com conversion harness for 119$ the best deal around. If you use the jdm p08 ecu for the original 92-95 jdm d15b vtec motor you can retain your single wire o2 sensor. i added a total of three wires. and the instructions tell you how to convert your dizzy wiring to obd1. all you need is a soldering iron and some patience. i have been driving the obd1 complete swap now for over 4 months problem free. ask me anything about the swap and i can tell you. i did the whole motor swap in 2 days by myself along with a p&p and a new seals, clutch, and other goodies.

alright, well i noticed my ex harness doesnt plug into the part of my harness going through the firewall. Do i need the other part of the ex wiring harness too that goes through the firewall? Or is that where the obd1 conversion harness comes into play. Please help!

Dude, look, your ex harness will not work. This is what you need to do
-get a p28 ecu
-get blown90hatch to send you an obd1 conversion harness and convert your car to obd1
-when you get said harness, use the instructions to rewire your distributor
-enjoy your un-ghettofied swap

So is this just a conversion harness that i use with my stock dx harness? Then just wire it to mpfi? Won't my z6 distributor work? my injectors are off a 95 ex, so they're obd1. Im in a jam, thanks a lot for your help.

You get the conversion harness, it plugs into your stock dx harness. Then you will wire for mpfi. After that, you will be able to use the obd1 injectors and distributor, all you have to do is re-pin the distributor plugs. You wil also have to run an obd1 ecu, suck as p28.
