Default How to use my Craftsman torque wrech??

I just got a craftsman torque wrench that measures pounds per inch (25-250).
Now I read I need to torque my header bolts to 23 ft/lbs. How would I do this if my torque wrench only does it by pounds per inch?

Thanks

easiest way to convert inch pounds to foot pounds is like this.

there are 12 inches in a foot. so in one foot pound there is 12 inch pounds.

you need 23ft/lbs.....so you take 23ft/lbs and multiply it by 12.

23 X 12 = 276

your torque wrench is to small.........use a 1/2" torque wrench.

What torque wrench do you have?

take it back and get these.

1/2 drive 25-250 ft.lbs in increment of 2lbs. Also reads newton-meters. $99.99 Mfr. model #44597

3/8 drive 5-80 ft.lbs in increment of .5lbs. Also reads newton-meters. $89.99 Mfr. model #44596

These wrenches are pricey but they're worth it.

I didn't have the 3/8 torque wrench last time i torqued exhaust manifold bolts. 25 ft.lbs will work.

I would avoid using torque wrenches near either end of their range, they're not nearly as accurate. The 5-80 is perfect for 23.

I'd stay away from using the 1/2" 25-150 for 23, even if the range did dip down to 20. They're not nearly as accurate near either end of their range. The 3/8" drive 5-80 would work just fine.

Very true. I learned that the hard way.
