Default EG radio reception/signal crappy?

I'm not sure if this belongs in this forum but I figure I would get a better response here. Does the deck play a big part in radio reception or is it the radio antenna/line causing bad reception? How can I fix this problem?

yes, the deck does play a big part and you can fix that by buying a new deck!

I've got a $500 CD player in my hatch & teh reception sucks. I think the antennae line is screwed up or something. I just haven't bought a new antennae, I plan on going w/ sirius anyway.

I have a $400 stereo and reception suck too. I guess it's probably an antenna problem.

kenwood excelon head... one of the longest and clearest FM and AM receptions ive heard in a car, but then again the car is a 2000, so the antenna is probably still working great... it is however much better than stock, night and day difference... so headunit does matter... perhaps the unit you have is great in everything except the reciever.

Then again, it is probably just the wire or antenna

I would have to say that all threee play a part in reception.....
You could start by replacing the antenna ($15 or so)
You could get an AM/FM signal booster from like radio shack($??)
Then maybe get a radio (sirius* ready )

Or maybe you jus live in the boony's and dont got alotta stations

my kenwood is sirus ready too,, its the brand's sat radio ... but... like my brother I investigated, and unless sirus will be bought out by XM, and Sirus users will be able to justkeep their original equipment, you may want to choose XM radio which has MANY MANY more users than Sirus and also seems to have better coverage and such... But who knows what the future holds, check it yourself, on all aspects, and think future... remember, this kind of radio costs money, and this is still a new market

$10 a month isn't bad and for over 150 stations in cd quality pretty much nationwide isn't bad... come up with $120 and just pay for a year in advance! had it for a couple weeks so far and couldn't be happier...

XM has more users because its been around a little longer.I work at an Acura dealer and all the new cars come with XM, so i get to listen to it all day. I went with Sirius because there are ALOT more Unedited stations.

Kenwood = Sirius $12.95/month (well worth the extra $3)
Pioneer = XM $9.95/month

As for XM buying out Sirius, ive heard nothing of the sort, Though there is talk of Viacom Purchasing Sirius, which will only make it better

i've heard sirius is better but don't know anyone with either so I can't compare it. I made my choice based on head unit... I'm partial to Pioneer head units but whether you end up with sirius or xm both are 100 times better than regular radio and way better then only being able to rock cds.

Does XM or Sirius pick up local radio stations? Anyways, did Honda antenna come shitty out of the factory? My old Nissan Pathfinder has 100x better reception and it has a broken antenna too.

No, they don't pick up local stations... On the other hand XM does have city specific radio stations for traffic! Don't know about sirius on that...

I'm not up for XM or Sirius yet. I would like to get my radio reception working properly first.

sirius will have howard, enough said. I have a JVC that's sirius ready so that will be coming next year. I haven't been able to listen to the radio in my car since I've bought it a year ago & this is the third HU I've had in it, and it will be the last I need.

I suggest picking up a decent HU that has the features you want. My HU was $500 when it first came out, but the new model is around $250 now. I have the ability to upload pics, or small movie files, the HU has multiple display color settings, font settings, etc. It's nice. I really got it for 3 reasons though, it has a red display to match my new red lit climate/cluster, the iPod connection cord was only $19, and it's sirius ready.

Sometimes bad reception can be caused by an insufficient ground on the head unit.
Try connecting a heavy-gauge wire from a metal part of the radio (one of the screws on the back) to the metal subframe of the dash/console.
You can use one of the mounting bolts as connecting point.
Some head units have an additional ground screw for that purpose.

dont waste your time on an antenna.. i have been doing car audio for 5 years and i know a way to get better reception than your stock antenna without spending a dime .. listen get about 5 feet of 16g wire. take the antenna lead that plugs in the radio and cut it .. leave about 2 inches or so on it coming out of the radio. then strip it back .. its coax so you want to use the wire in the middle. solder the middle wire to the 5 feet of 16g wire and tape . make sure that the outside sheathing on the antenna lead is not touching.. run the line up into your healiner and past the door.. wahla.. now you have reception.. if you dont do it right its not going to pick up as well...

its not some official thing.. just competition predictions... Sirius is losing the battle from the last time I looked. That is all, we figured that XM would buy it and monopolize on its users and coverage utilities.

Well, I had time today and pulled out the deck to inspect the antenna coax. Found out that the male end which hooks up to an extension had broken. I'm gonna go buy me a new line and hopefully that fixes it.
