Default JDM Clutser KMH to MPH changeover

i just ran across this site by accident. appearently these people make a converter that plugs into the VSS line and some how tricks somthing into making ur JDM gauge cluster read those KMH numbers as MPH numbers. i was reading SPORT COMPACT CAR (the one with BRIAN SPILNER aka PAUL WALKER's) and i saw this skyline that read in MPH even those ther number were in KMH. not sure if it is easy to follow what im saying to ill break it down a little bit easier. Ok say u have a jdm clutser and ur driving down the road at 80 KMH, ur not going 80 mph. but with this converter if ur cluster said 80 kmh you would be really going 80 mph. understand? well here is the site http://www.kilburne.com/2410/frames.php just curious if maybe someone has done this before and i missed it when searching or if someone has used them and kept it a secret from the rest of the HT world. well this just locked my into buying a jdm cluster. that is all.

now if someone could do something similar to get the S2000 speedometer to work with front wheel drive cars this would be awesome!

i know this thing seems kinda cool, and it is, but i have been delivering all the new GM cars, and they dont have dual numbered guages any longer, you just hit a but and the needles jumps up or down depending on what systen you happen to be on.

but im waiting on someone to crack the problem for the S2000 guage cluster where everything work except the speedo. i may just do this for the civic type r, or JDM integra type r guages.

yeah like i said. i read where they did this to a skyline and i searched and came across a 240sx forum where they use jdm clusters for their sr20 swaps. and some guy had this cracked. he laid it all out. but it wasnt in laymen or honda terms. so i did a little more digging with a little more hope as a honda person had this cracked and found this sight. as for the s2k, ill research that also.

i want to order one bad, and a new faceplate... but... if you look at the kph to mph converters. why is the one that delimits and converts less expensive then the one that just delimits.....

e0021 vs. e002d

i mean common! $18.76 + shipping for a faceplate, and not haveing to constantly crunch #'s in your head

it's $62.53 for electronic converter and de-limiter, and $78.16 for de-limiter alone. all converted to usd. all not including shipping but w/ vat. ?

i like this site, but what's inc. vat. mean? i included it in all my exchange rates

why would anyone want to worry all day about there speed.... must be us ef'ers are stoners.... hehehe

i'd love to get my hands on some of the electronic speedo converters they use (take it apart and see what it's made of... prolly just a resistor ect... either way the gauge faces are hot, and converters for jdm radio too! woot woot.

great find...

from what i read in the 240sx forum it is a 12.47k resistor or somthing like that. people were trying with a 9.xxk resistor also. they also have a lil dial **** they played with to work it all out in voltage.

HERE IS THE LINK I PROMISED YOU. Now if only u can figure this out for Honda's, you my friend would be a LEGEND.

lol my friend w/ a 97 ka24de-t was looking into that too for his 2nd o2 sensor. since he had a turbo mani and freeflowing exhaust he needed it to fool the 2nd o2. lol i use to be a nissan guy... guess there's a lot of us out there i will probably look into it. i'm definately contacting elite in reguards to a gauge face and the delimiter... those are very usefull

I have been working on this for a little while and here's what I came up with.

My other car is a Dodge Shadow with a Shelby package, called a CSX.
2.2L turbo intercooled from the factory. I have the boost set at 15psi and it easily pulls over the 125mph speedo. I wanted something more so I found a Canadian speedometer. It is KPH like a JDM cluster is. This KPH speedo reads to 200. I went to the speedometer shop and bought a speedo corrector. My speedo was cable drive. I think the new corrector's ratio is 1.333 or something. It converted it to MPH. Now when the speedo reads 125kph, I am going 125mph and if I had the power I could read up to 200mph. The odometer reads in MPH now too because the corrector is making the MPH signal 1.333:1 less which the KPH speedo reads 1.333:1 less Xph and less odometer reading.

I have an SIR electric cluster and I plan to do the same thing. An electric ratio corrector will do the same thing as the cable corrector. The only problem I have is that the KPH speedo has a very narrow range up to "60mph" (kph) and it would make driving at low speeds accuratly kinda hard. I'd like to find a 155mph face kinda like the UKDM cluster that would fit the electric speedo or a lower KPH speedo than the 180 unit, but whatever. I figure it's like anything else I'll get used to it.

The thing you want is called a speedometer corrector, it is commonly used by 4x4 truck guys to correct for mud tires and lower gear ratios and stuff. They sell them for motorcycles too. The later model Harleys ( I know for sure) and maybe some other bikes use electric speedos. When you chang your sprockets for racing the speedo is wrong the adapter fixes that.

ALSO because the pluses to the speedometer are less the top speed limiter is pushed up to a higher MPH.

for cable speedos you can get a gear reducer out of the UK to make the cable spin a little slower which will make your KM/H cable speedo read at the right speed. i put one on my r32, and it works great.

there are other types for electric speedos that just reduce the number of pulses so the speedo reads correctly. you just plug it inline to the speed sensor wire going to the speedo.

This is great info. I asked this question months ago and everyone got on my case about it. Example " Why would you want it to read MPH if your putting on a JDM cluster" Any was great thread .

For the people who have ordered this, how much was it?
