Default I got a newbie question.

Okay, my friend is telling me to shift at 6300 RPM's because my car doesnt make power past that point. (I drive a 95 LS Integra) However, there are other people that tell me that revving it to redline will set me up for a better upshift. So what do you guys think? What do you guys rev it up to? My car is basically bonestock, except for an intake.

Anyways this is how I usually race at a stop/stoplight.

Revv it to 3100, and feather the clutch out until I start creeping.
Then I dump it when the light turns green, and just completely floor it.
Usually around 5800-6000 rpms I catch grip,
And the revvs stay at 6000 for a tiny bit,
And then I go all the way to redline. (6800)

My car is supposed to run 16 flats, But Ive lost to my friends hatch that has a D15 swap, and he runs 16 flat (With a small weight reduction-40 lbs). I run a full interior 2 DR LS, and Ive lost to him @ a stoplight race. He's also beaten my other friends RS 94. So am I getting everything out of my car that I can by redlining? Or am I just wasting time and horsepower?

oh come on, its a honda forum, giving a thumbs down to street racing or any thing fast not done on a track is like giving a thumbs down for lack of safe sex at an abortion clinic... anyway, i havent learned how to race my teg since im a new driver but from everything ive been taught to believe, find out where your ls generates the power at what rpm. like xhp@x rpm and xtorque@x rpm. im sure you can search for a lot of theoretical threads dealing with powerbands.

learn how to drive first, then come back to ask your question again.

As you stated in your last post...why don't YOU search for the "theoretical threads dealing with powerbands." These posts are everywhere so have at it. And YES street racing is moronic.

Check out the unorganized street racers and all you'll see is a bunch of hondas and neons reving up thier motors like they're 15 second car is the fastest thing on earth. It's like that everywhere you go.

Um... I think you misinterpreted what he said. Might wanna re-read that for yourself.

Also theres alot of fast cars on the streets, not just the 15-16 second norms you see out there. HC's got a 11 second hatch, the fastest thing Ive seen around here locally. Next to that, theres 50 other guys with bolt-on turbos hitting 13.5's. I dont know where you come from but, around here, alot of people that I know (that dont run track) have cars that are faster than 15 seconds.

The track has a age limit.
Also the track isnt as fun as the streets,
I guess.. Different things for different people?
Sorry I cant be you.

Um.. I have no Idea what you mean by that, care to explain urself?

Anyway, I posted this in the integra forum, hoping to get a quick and simple response because this is after all the INTEGRA forum, and the question does relate to an integra, so it cant be offtopic.

WHAT YOUR CAR IS A RS AND RUNS AROUND 16. I have a 99 gsr and mine runs around 16.8 -16.9 i also have a full interior. I think i'am going to remove my complete ac system. I heard it takes off around 100lbs.

You're Loosing cuz u r over reving when u dump it..dude the least amount of spin the better, just practice till u can just chirp them a little bit then get on the gas then shift and chirp in second..etc
Go to a track..its the safest way and there are tons of other experienced drivers there to help u..

I think you missed the unorganized part there. I don't care what town you go to there is this giant group of 80 people with stock civics and neons standing around and waiting to go to a "spot". Thats just the way it is. When we get a race going on the street it isn't some public affair. We'll get the group together, head out, pop off a few runs(usually for money) and then go home. I was referring to that group of people that you see sitting outside a gas station every friday and saturday night. Maybe you are one of them I don't know.

Haha, you must not be able to drive worth ****. A 16.8 in a GSR is ******* pitiful.

Since when is there an age limit at the track? My 16yr old friend takes his car out there with no problems. But seriously, street racing is stupid and dangerous.

you need to not floor it so early, not getting grip in a stock car is a supra problem, not integra

that is horrible man, in my stock rs i was running consistent 15.8's, and with a bolt on turbo with 5lbs of boost i was running 13.7's...practice your technique, you should be almost hitting 15.1's if not high 14's with a gsr

And that way i can have your address to come hunt you down and kill you. You wanna lose some weight go get a hatchback. I dont know about anyone else but the reason I got another integra (after having 12 second hatch) is to get some of these nice creature comforts.

sorry to flame im just venting im not mad at you. I dont know where all that hostility came from. but for real. if you take it out ill buy it off you cheap!

it's better if u shift when ur powerband ends and dont dump the clutch that breaks things and gives you too much wheelspin...If you want tyo know a lot about integras go over to http://www.team-integra.net

saying street racing is dumb is a lost cause. for every track racer there are 200 street racers. agreed its dumb in broad daylight and busy streets, i personally enjoy going out and racing with friends, and meeting others that share the same joy. its not as though my buddys and i are being stupid and dont realize the consequences and ramifications of something going wrong. but at the same time this adds to the fun and thrill i suppose. and agreed with what was stated above about the 15 second cars.. most races i see are 12 second boosters and 13 second NA's

i dont like being limited to one day a week just to drive an hour away and pay 20 bucks in gas and 30 bucks just to spectate or run..

not to mention every once in a while a bagged and kitted eclipse gs rolls by and we can all watch collectively as it hits the switches too fast and cracks the candy coated fake blitz front end
