Curious to what you guys are shifting at?
I was wondering what you shift at when racing? my car is a stock 94 ex, i usually shift right when redline starts(about 6500). What is the highest this car can rev and am i shifting about right?
i have a 2003 accord EX and i havent done any racing in it.. its still stock for now. But i have taken it out joy riding once on the old country back roads that are about 10 min from my house and i was shifting around 5.5 or 6. That is where i seemed to get the best engine response. for downshiftign i waited until the RPMS got around 3.5 or 4.... That worked best i think.

You don't understand gearing much. If you're racing, shifting at redline will ensure you land at your powerpoint instead of well below it. That's what gearing is all about; landing in your powerband after a shift.
If you shift at "peak power" like you suggested, you'd fall waaaaaaaay out of your powerband and get passed by everyone.

Exactly right, but a lot of people don't understand this. Good explanation

the only time i take it that high is during autocross...and that's because i either shift into third and then downshift right back into second right away or ride it out in second...sometimes it's better to stay in gear..and when i looked at my tach it was buried in the red

if you really insist on knowing the optimal shift points...
you'll need a dyno graph and all of your gear ratios.

its not that hard to calculate.
author does not have a solid english base, so his wording is hard to interpret. you have to look at what he's done, then you'll know how to proceed.

racing an accord w/ a f22 that is stock is retarded. the car is slow as hell and heavy as hell. just drive it and shift normally at like 3... unless you got a h22 or spray or turbo or all.
maybe retarded by i never back down(unless i know for a fact i will get my *** handed to me) but still out of the 15 or so races i've only lost 3 lol, lot of interstate races
. but i have been known to have good starts lol

only lost 3 outta 15 thats not bad.... what kind of cars are you racing?
before i figured out the f22 was one of the slowest things ever i would lose to everything even a ford focus hatch (non svt) it was sad
but now thats a different story... im not that slow anymore

Even my auto goes to 3500 with less than 50% throttle....you know, it can be bad if you're shifting too low...if you bog the engine you are putting a ton of pressure on the block...that's bad.
Don't be afraid to rev it a little bit....I wouldn't want my shifts LANDING below 2 grand on a four banger with no torque.
