Anyone using a Canon Powershot A310?
Edit: If you have good night shots please post then and explain how you took them. Thanks.
How do you take night shots? I got the camera down where i could take some pretty good Macro and day shots but my night shots suck
Any tips? I want to master this camera before i move on to a better one.
Thanks.

I did, it says nothing about night shots. I even had a friend read it and it said nothing about night shots. [crybabyvoice] I WANT TO DO NIGHT SHOTS DAMNIT![/crybabyvoice]

you cant take night shots with it..
the camera has a min shutter of 1 second w/ flash in the night time scene mode. it will not yeild acceptable results.
most og my night shots are taken in tv mode (you dont have that, the a300/10 is full auto only) with a shutter speed on average between 5-10 seconds.
i used to have a a300 but i quickly realized it wasnt good for any thing but point and shoot...
less than a year later i have a canon d30 dslr...
... you get what you pay for

Can i seen some of your night shots with the a300 if you have any?

you CANNOT get acceptable results with the a300 of a car (because the shutter is too short and the flash WILL trigger, its the only way to get the 1 sec exp).
far away BRIGHTLY lit objects, can be taken with a tripod with the a300, here is a few of mine with it in las vegas... i rested the camera a ledge of a parking garage to avoid shake, and since the subjects were so far away, the flash had no effect.
tell me how much money you have to spend on a camera and i can make a good reccomendation.

Get a different camera if you want to take good night shots. Sounds like you don't have an adjustable shutter speed which is key to taking good night pics. Here is a pic taken with my canon a80 at night...
Biggest thing I could suggest for night shots is AMPLE light. Change your iso to a low setting (IMO auto usually turns the pictures to grains) look at the first car picture (real car) compared to the next.
I don't use auto selection on my camera (sony p10) and my night shots turn out damn good (my opinion) but I still suck.
You don't need an expensive camera to take night shots; the following were taken with my old olympus 300 3mp 120dollar special:

My current shots look better and more crisp
. Read your manual and know how to adjust your iso, shutter speeds, modes etc.

dude you need LIGHT
just because it's an ok camera doesn't mean it has "night vision" or something.
that buick isn't lit at all.
I don't see why it's blurry though if you used a tripod, that is wierd.
but yeh, a tripod is going to be required for any dark scenes.

$299 at best buy. The a80 is discontinued now, it was replaced with the a85, but I wouldn't recommend that one since the image sensor is smaller. If anything, look for an a80 online somewhere or get the a95 model instead.

I have an A70. When taking night shots I set my shutterspeed at the lowest setting and try to find the brightest spots possible. YOur not going to have any luck taking shots in the dark when its dark. Ill post pics if needed.
