weird start up today?
started my civic today it has a b16a2 well as soon as i started my car it had a rough idle i reved it a few times then it cleared up as it was running a little rough there was a little smoke i couldn't tell if it was white or not but it did look white but as soon as it warmed up it was fine. went to work for the whole day went to start it and it was fine. i do run a little rich cause if i really hit the gas you will see a lillte black smoke. i checked my oil and show no signs of running low on oil and its not milky looking like if my head gasket was bad any suggestions?
did u look at the plugs? how does the coolant look? posible fuel filter might be shitty . try that stuff first maybe that might help u out
1. If the fuel filter was clogged, he wouldn't be running rich (black smoke), right?
2. A misfiring cylinder will send extra oxygen to the exhust which will be picked up by the O2S. The ecu will often misinterpret this as a lean condition and fatten up the AFR. However, this doesn't really fit your complaint because many ecus ignore the O2S and run a richer AFR on WOT anyway. And it shouldn't be so rich it runs black.
3. Have someone follow you and watch your exhaust color: Do a WOT run up a hill in the same gear if possible (3rd or 4th). If it smokes blue, your rings are shot. If it smokes blue on a long decel, it's your valve guides and/or valve guide seals. Ignore the intial puff of blue smoke when you take off. It's the oil that got sucked into the intake ports past the valve guides and will burn off in a few seconds.
4. An ignition prob can set off a series of events described in #2 above. If the engine runs smooth at WOT, my guess of the root cause is an oil consumption problem.

it takes less than 3 minutes to check the spark plugs. there mite be sum residue on the plugs. see if the plugs are fouled up. i know when i had did a motor change in my car the motor had a ruff idle. so i took the plugs out and put sum new ones in and the idle was smooth.
and what color was the smoke?
could it be a possibility of condesation in the exhaust pipe for it to smoke a lil when u started it up? did the smoke have any type of oder?

only like one or two times when i started it did it seem rough gave it some gas for a second a little bit of white smoke then it will clear up and run good then if i hit the gas it will have black smoke but not alot. the smoke does smeel like gas so i believe it is running rich. i checked my plugs they are not wet they are not grey like its running lean they are a little black. i am not loosing any coolant and my oil is not going low like if i am burning oil.
