How is your crank case breathing system set up? Especially you race guys.
I just wanna see how you guys have your systems set up. If its just a breather filter on the valve cover and otherwise stock.....don't bother posting. I'm looking for ideas other than that.

Hollowed out pcv valve and valve cover breather running to the same can. No baffles in the can. Tiny air filter on top of the can. Port in intake manifold blocked off where pcv used to go. It's open loop, and not street legal.
sounds good but how does fresh air get in the engine? don't you need to clear out the harmfull and corosive gases?
moroso oil catch can or whatnot or some sort (can with big filter on top... i forgot exactly what it was used for) line from pcv to catch can.. line from valve cover to catch can (welded on fitting... stock breather blocked off)
Tom, same question for you that I asked Inlinefour. Don't you need fresh air going into your crankcase?

im not sure of how the breather actually works... as in when it sucks in and when it blows out... anyway u look at it... air can come back through to it... its not a pcv valve... just basically an open filter if u really think about it

pcv is a one way valve, the filter excahnges gases at ambient pressure, the pcv valve can actually vent while the filter just sits there. you really need vaccuum on a turbo motor to evacuate crankcase gases. real trick way is to hook up your breather tube to the exhaust like top fuel dragsters.
But still no one answered my question about needing fresh air to enter the crank case. Give me your opinion on this: "Apart from preventing pressure buildup, an important reason for crank ventilation is the extraction of acidic vapours (products of combustion), which are responsible for the majority of engine wear. If you restrict or disable your PCV system, you`ll shorten your engine life...period."
Why do you need fresh air to enter the crankcase? Your quote did not mention that?
You need to extract the bad vapors, thats it.

Sure it did: "an important reason for crank ventilation is the extraction of acidic vapours (products of combustion), which are responsible for the majority of engine wear"
Remeber, it may be cool for race engines to run setups like inlinefour's, but I need my car to last.

Again..I dont see where that quote says that fresh air needs to enter the crankcase. It says the ventelation system is to EXTRACT vapors from the crankcase...not to let new fresh air in.
If you extract air from the crankcase, fresh air has to come in from somewhere...otherwise you'll create a vacuum.
So, where do you get a baffled oil catchcan? Who makes one? I'm wanting to get one. . . .
can you esplain waht im looking at a little better?
greddy catch can hooked up to breather filter and valve cover? whats the pcv hooked up to?
