Default how can i tell if o2 sensor is working/wired up correctly?

well ive been failing smog a lot and i found out that my o2 sensor was not hooked up. for some reason the o2 sensor plug was female when its supposed to be male. so i ordered a new ngk o2 sensor. and i didnt have time to install it so i just spliced the new male plug to the old o2 sensor. i plugged the old female and new male plug together to match up wire colors. the old was like blk, blk, grn, wht and the new was wht, wht, blk, gry. i wired it up blk/wht, blk/wht, grn/blk, wht/gry as that was how the plugs attached to each other. when i have time ill splice it back into the new o2 sensor and install that, but just curious how can i tell if it even works? will i get a different idle? better performance? throttle response, etc? thanks, sorry if its a stupid q

your cel will not be giving you a code for the oxygen sensor.

thats pretty weird, im almost certain it should show you a code.

when mine was disconnected like yours is i had a couple other problems with the car so it was illuminated.

but thats what code 1 is referring to.

disconnect the battery for 5-10 mins.

Your wiring is wrong BTW if I remember right. Green (harness)--->Grey (new sensor) and white (harness)---->black (new sensor). The other 2 are correct.
