whats up guys i have a big problem with my car its a 2k1 type r #772, and i just replaced the drivers side half shaft 2 weeks ago cause it snapped on me when wuz pullin out of a parking lot i wasnt speeding or anything just a loud snap, and the car would go into gear without the clutch being pressed. i had it towed home and the cv joint on the half shaft was broken in pieces metal pieces everywhere. i fixed the half shaft the next day with one from auto zone they only have the part for the vtec or non vtec, being unsure i called acura to make sure the part # for the 2k1 gsr half shaft was the same for the type r it was they said so i bought it and replaced the part. now this past sunday night the same damn thing happened on the same side i wasnt racing or anything i put it in first and snap the same sound and same problem i had it towed to my house again and the same problem but this time the cv joint boot did not tear but the halfshaft does rotate and does not turn the cv joint boot so my guess the same thing the inside of the cv joint went to **** again. Oh and also i put my car up on jack stands put it in first both shafts spin, the drivers and passangers side but when i turn the wheel hard left the passenger side does not spin, and the drivers side continues to spin, since the type r's have a lsd shouldnt both tires spin? what that hell is wrong with my car why does it keep breaking cv joints, and whats up with the passanger side, oh and i checked it hard left cause i notice a knocking on turns only when i turn hard left whats the problem everybodys help would be great thanks

 

Is the car slammed? It should not be breaking axles unless there is something seriously jacked up with the suspension geometry. Or if you are making 600 whp

 

not slammed to the ground its dropped moderatly with greound control coilovers about a 2 inch drop i didnt change the drop in the last 2 years

 

when your car is on the jackstand. in first gear. which way does the passenger wheel spin if u spin the driverside? it should spin the opposite way. if u turn your wheel to the left or right and spin the wheel and it doesn't spin, from what you have given I guess the lsd is broken..

 

I had a big problem with mine breaking too. My first had to be replaced because I damaged it trying to remove it. The one I replaced with was a locally rebuilt one. It broke on a 2-3 redline shift on the street. I got an exact replacement, which broke after a couple hot laps on a 2-3 redline shift. I replaced it with a frankenstein axle my engine builder put together, but it developed a bad bad bad vibration. I replaced it with another, which was rebuilt by the same company as the first two replacements. The vibration didn't go away, so I spent a year looking for the problem elsewhere. It turned out that the rebuilt one was causing the problem, so I replaced it with a non-rebuilt one from a local scrapper.

Some people think that the reason remanned axles are more likely to break is because when they machine the shaft they're removing the hardened metal from the outside. The other thing you have to keep in mind is that when you're taking your old shitty axle in for a core, that's just going to be cleaned up and resold to someone else. If the problem you had with it is something more than a cracked boot or maybe some worn bearings then the next person who buys it is going to inherit your problem.

Coles notes:
First rebuilt axle I got broke prematurely
Second rebuilt axle I got broke prematurely
Third rebuild axle I got vibrated like a bitch
Replaced them with non-rebuilt ones from junkyard and now I'm happy

Conclusion:
Rebuilt axles can suck fat *****

 

damn your halfshaft broke because you were pulling out of a parking lot and like you werent doing anything seriously wrong like speeding or cornering just normal driving under normal conditions in a normal world without gravity wow who would have figured that **** you are the man you what the hell happened i dunno does anyone care to tell him what happened its like something out of half life 2 how his car blew up his half shaft and stuff then he went to autozone to get a part and then replaced it himself because he owns a type r 772 from 2k1 because its still cool to refer to years based upon the millenium mark because we are still all awed by the 21st century i know im busting his ***** by typing like this but theres no way i give a damn what his problem is if he has one huge run on sentence i really dont want to read so maybe when he reads this he will figure out just maybe how important school is well atleast i shouldnt be complaining as much because he can atleast spell and not spel lyk diz becaue so anyone want to bet i could make this into a 10 page scroll down pita yeah you see i havent used one comma one period one asterisk or any sort of notation tool because this is still the same sentence oh god if youve read all this you need some help. <-- period
