torn axle boot
i had my car checked out at a local honda shop in town and they said I had torn axels boots, and my shafts should be replaced. I drive a 97 DX, and I was wondering how much a torn boot will affect my car. And how long do you think the axles will last if I keep driving with them torn. They also said it woulc cost $310 per SIDE to replace the torn axel boot, and shaft. Is that too much? I also saw a guy on craiglist who was selling SI axeles for a good price and I was wondering if they would fit my stock motor. Any help would be great. Im noob to motors in general. Thanks
Or you could hit up Autozone and obtain each axle for less than a hundred bucks each, plus they're particularly easy to install. Or you could find a driveshaft/CV axle specialty shop and they'd probably replace the torn boots for a small fee.
or if they arent clicking yet, you can go to autozone or any parts store for that matter, get the CV boot kit, and then have a shop install them, they are like 10 bucks a piece...
Replace the boot yourself. . . . . . . . . Beck & Arney boots the brand to get. Its a bit more expensive than Precision but are as strong as factory. I think they were like $12-$14 at Orielley's. The only special tool you'll need is a 2/3 prong bearing extractor. Do not get the quick boot sold @ Autozone or Pepboys. It is a wrap around type.
it depends how long they have been torn for. if it has been quite a while all the grease could have been flung out and there could be debris inside your CV joints. you should be able to obtain brand new axles for around $90 a piece from a local auto parts store.
I'd get teh auto store brand w/ a lifetime warrenty. I've never had issues w/ them that I didn't cause myself, so they seem to be OK + you have a lifetime warrenty
It is much cheaper than the stealership.
