I have a 97 Prelude SH. It just started snowing out here so I had a chance to test my ABS on some ice with my new winter tires.

I am not sure if this is normal for Honda's, but when I hit the brakes, the brake pedal almost tries to push itself upwards to prevent me from keeping the brakes to the floor. the major issue I have though it that I can feel and hear a metal on metal grinding noise and feel in my foot while the ABS is activating. Now, I have not used the ABS since I bought the car about 4 months ago.

You know when you haven driven a car for a while and then you take it for a spin, the brakes are rusty and dirty. When you hit the brakes, you can feel the dust and rust grind off the rotors.....that is what my ABS feels and sounds like.

Anyone think there might be anything wrong or is this how the ABS is supposed to be activated. Any suggestions would be awesome.

thats actually normal. Its the abs system modulating the brake pedal to keep the wheels from locking up.

 

Thanks for your input. I guess since the ABS has not been used in a while is the reason that the grinding noise was coming up. Ive tested them some more and it seems to get quieter now. Thanks again, just wanted to make sure the ABS wasn't bad.
