Default Fixing rear view mirror...

I just bought a new car and was taking the ez pass of the lude but it was in a difficult place between the rear view mirror and the windshield. Somehow i snapped the mirror off but it doesnt look broken it just looks like i pulled a screw off. I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix it.

thanks

Yeah, I did the same thing as you. Push the outer plastic housing toward the front of the car and pull sown at the same time. It should come off. You'll the see two or three srews holding the remaining part to the ceiling. Taking those out and you'll know where to go from there.

Okay, I made an account just to reply to this... I had the exact thing happen.

Hopefully I can remember what to do, exactly. It's quite easy to do, it's just not obvious how to start.

The key is to take out the interior light. It isn't secured with any screws, if you pry carefully it will come right off. After that is hanging loose, there should be some screws exposed that were hidden behind it. Unscrew those to take off the whole plastic bit.

Now, if memory serves, you should be able to get at the bit that held the mirror in place. You're correct, it's basically an oversize screw held by an o-ring type thing. Take out the screws that hold the o-ring to the car, and make sure you didn't badly damage it when the mirror got pulled out (with a bit of hammering to get it flat, mine was fine again)

The only part that requires effort is to get the big screw out of the mirror - you need to pull it off, put it through the o-ring, and screw it back in. After that, just mount everything back up and you're good to go.

I taped together lots of napkins around the handle of thing thing and stuffed it back in for awhile

Anyway, either the front or back of the light should pry down fairly easily (I forget which). After that it's pretty clear sailing, although you'll need some vice grips or something equally strong to get the screw on the mirror off...
