going from welded to LSD, will I be disapointed?
I raced this season on a welded diff in my ITA crx, but I'm considering putting in a gear based (OBX) limited slip for next year as I plan to take a season off of road racing to autoX. Will I be disapointed when I get back to the track, having less lock up between the front wheels?
I really liked the braking/turning/accelerating of the locked from end, but of course slow maneuvers in the pit, etc, are a pain.
My concern is that the lsd won't lock as much. Has anyone gone from welded to lsd and is able to comment on the change?
thx

I'ts been a long time, but I used to run a Mugen Crx back home in New Zealand. We welded up the diff as there was no aftermarket LSD's available at the time. I gained over two seconds a lap by using the locked diff... And yes I agree it was a pain to drive around the pits but the thing cornered and pulled out of corners like a dream! I don't think you will be disapointed going to a regular LSD. But I think you will notice a big difference in ease of driving. However if you are used to the Locked diff the transition to an LSD should be easy.
Good Luck.

You have a right to be concerned. A welded diff is 100% lockup (duh) and the OBX diff. (which is identical..i think..to the quaife) is around 35% lockup. You might find that your understeer/oversteer will be affected.
