Default TURBOING MY TYPE R

I HAVE A 2000 TYPE R AND I WANT TO TURBO IT BUT I WAS TOLD THAT IT MIGHT RUIN MY ENGINE. THE CAR IS STOCK EXCEPT FOR THE NORMAL COLD AIR INTAKE AND EXHAUST UPGRADE. DOES ANYONE ONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS.

well first turn off the caps lock....any mod can ruin your engine depending on you....if you do it right it will last. you need a solid plan and a good tuner. my car lasted over 2 years boosted and when we pulled the motor apart the internals were still perfect it is all in tuning

The type r motor has to high of compression to run a healthy turbo. To lower it you can either replace your motor and rebuild another and sell your current motor? (I don' t know how much money you have to spend what you really want and so) You should keep your tranny and head and slang the rest (or just keep it for another setup?) It sounds like you should just build up your current setup, I don't know?
If you really must go turbo then the first thing I would do is buy a used gsr block (that is if I wanted to have less down time, but then you would have to sell your old type R stuff after) in the classifieds or something. After breaking the block down send it out to a machine shop to be "reinforced" and resurfaced to hang with your new turbo setup. Buy some "turbo ready" pistons and rods and ect. You could do this with your motor but I'm sure you can find a used gsr block for cheap somewhere? Good luck!!

You can turbo whatever you want. Like someone's sig on here says "if you plan to boost you better have enough $$$ to rebuild. Personally I wouldn't boost my caR but if that's what you want to do just do a quick search on here and you will find plenty

Don't listen to the post about gettng another motor blah blah or the type r motor's compression is too high. That is all just hype and compression dosen't kill motors careless people do. Whatever turbo set up you go with just get a good engine management and a good tune and you should be fine. There are plenty of stock motor R's on the board that have been running for a while with little to no problems me being one of those people.

depends on the turbo size, I believe most people will say 6-8psi on a smaller turbo. Don't quote me on that as I do not have a turboed type-R and am only going from what I remember reading.

There are plenty of R's that don't have stock motors and they are boosting safely all around town!! It all depends on how you drive yes, it's one of those things you'll have to ask yourself. WILL YOU BLOW YOUR SH*T UP?

I don't know? Do a search!! I don't think it's worth your time.

You should build up your car with some JUN cams, headers, and some sticky tires!!

I say go big or go home!!

I think you have no idea what you want to do with your car. Figure that out then figure out whether you need the turbo to do what you want. Because right now it just seems like you want a turbo to say my car has xHP. Either that or you just want to be cool by saying "yea it's turboed" and hearing the BOV (which I enjoy as well )

sensei has run 10psi and about 300whp in his stock internal ITR for a good few years....with only a thicker head gasket I ran 12-17psi depending on the fuel I had in the car on stock internals for 2 years. it is all in tuning period

I wouldn't go beyond 300hp on stock motor. Be informed that you cannot go by how much psi as it varies depending on the turbo you use. Do enough research before you start down this money pit and you will save yourself alot of time/hassle and money.

Agreed. Sell your Type R and get an LS. LS tranny is awesome for boost cause you're in boost longer cause the gears are longer.
