R-18 hosepower gain by adding cold air intake and exhaust?
How much more horsepower can I expect by installing a cold air intake and exhaust to a 2006 R-18 engine? I want to keep this engine relativley stock, but with a little extra boost. My 14 year old son is going inherit this vehicle in couple of years. Thanks

I would leave it stock, so you can resale the car for more money down the road
you wont notice to much just with i/h/e
your gunna have to swap the motor out to get anything real

get what is legit now, like an intake, and maybe the magnaflow exhaust, that is if you dont wanna wait for another manufactuer.
as for everything else, just wait it out. NO ONE knows the true potential for this car yet with nothing being out.
lets not forget the k20 has been sitting in an RSX for about 4 to 5 years now and almost everything is out for the Si owner.

funny how all these si snobs say the r18 has no potential...
people have been hooking up honda civics for ever and this is the fastest civic yet
i/h/e + 75 shot = 215-230ish hp<~~ not bad

...Hush...
K20>R18
Just hate when people talk trash about R18 guys like theyre gods...
but i hate when R18 guys talk trash back about how R18's have more "potential".
Just answer the guys question and leave it as it is...
Adding a CAI and exhaust will make u gain power but not much...itll be so minimalhowever u will get more mpg due to your CAI. Do not do a bad installation though otherwise ull check engine light will come out and probably f'ed up your engine and buh bye warranty unless ur smart enough to replace everything back to stock before you take it to the dealership

Re: (eff iT)
there are several threads about this already. One of them proved me wrong since i didnt know much about the R18 and K20 engines yet i decided to open my mouth(bad bad) when i thought from previous cars that a CAI will make the car sound more aggressive with no increase or an actual decrease on your mpg.
CAI = loud at lower rpms 3-5 mpg gains
SRI = loud at high rpms with 2-3mpg gains

happy owner
As long as you are happy on what you have & what you drive, you will get alot of hatters no matter what but its all about what makes you happy not them, spend money on your engine and if you like it then there... if not get a k20, later on there will be a bigger engine with more power so... find it within you on what makes it uniqe and your style AND $$$$$$$$$$$$.......
P.S. Alot of the companys do Big on R&D so the more BANG for your $ and the history of the company

Re: R-18 hosepower gain by adding cold air intake and exhaust?
Everyone asks me if I lost fuel Mileage when I put put my 2.5" catback and " header " + down pipe, and i put a short ram intake but I thought I was crazy when I saw 750 km out of a tank mostly hwy but I never got that mileage before almost 40mpg. She is ridiculously loud and she stinks a bit but doesn't bother me none lol

Re: (Striker_1818)
Not really. I had a short ram on my D16Y7 Civic (1997) and though it sounded great, it wasn't that much of a gain. In fact, I might have lost on it because I was sucking hot engine bay air in, not cold streaming air from the outside of the car.
