Default Burning oil after swap

Just swapped in a d16a6 into my 89 civic Dx. The original engine was burning oil horribly, so I picked up a high mialage ~ 400 000km civic Si with a recent rebuild instead.

The Si engine was rebuilt about 60 000Km ago. I drove the engine home and it wasnt noticibly smoking.

Over the last 2 months I've swapped the engine out and into my 90 Dx. Now I'm burning oil like there's no tomorrow. Its so bad I'm nocious when I'm around the car and I'm smoking up my neighbourhood. (I've let it run for a good 1/2 hour while I heated the coolant to remove the air bubbles)

What could have caused this? Is there a standard no no when swapping that I may have done that fucked the engine up?

Stuff I also did during the swap that might be an issue:
- Change timing belt and water pump
- Cleaned out the TB with carb cleaner and sprayed a fair bit into the TB with the engine running (the car responds very slowly to pedal change...so I assume its got allot of carbon.)
- Rewired the engine to fit into the DPFI harness...fucked up the wiring a few times

I really cant understand what happened, the engine ran fine when I got it...aside from responding slowly to pedal pressure.

Have you checked your compression since you put the motor in?

Only started it yesterday so I havent had a chance....and considering how bad it smokes, I dont want to leave it running long enough to bring it to operating temperature. I got complaints from my neighbours.

I'm just having a hard time swallowing the compression changing during a swap. I'm starting to wonder if it might not have been rain that seeped into the engine while it was outside then froze as the temperatures dropped below freezing a few weeks ago. **** I hope that didnt happen.

BUMP

Well I had a chance to fix the idle problems with the car. Ends up the published swap instructions had a bug in them and I had misswired 2 connectors.

I also drained the *new* oil (45 minutes of run time on it). It was black as **** . WHY???? I also drained not 1, not 3 but 5 lt of oil from the motor

My only hypothesis is that the engine didnt drain completely when I pulled it to swap it out.

The smoking has drastically reduced, to the point that one can stand around the car without wanting to heave.

I'm still burning oil, cause I can smell it in the exhaust. I'll do a compression test as soon as I have another instant.

Does anyone have any other ideas why an engine would just start to burn oil.
