burning oil with synthetic
I just recently had the motor replaced in my 2000 gsr due to it burning oil. they re placed the shortblock due to the rings and said my head was fine. I had the car since new and noticed that ever since I switched to synthetic at about 1000 miles it had burned oil. the tech at the dealer told me that all integras burn oil when using synthetic and to only use non synthetic oil. i have currently broken in the motor and am coming up on 1000 miles and am afraid of damaging it again by using synthetic but it doesn't make sense to me that synthetic oil would cause the motor to burn oil. I know all vtecs burn a little at high rpm but mine was burning two quarts every thousand miles using redline, mobil one, and castrol syntec. please tell me what you think about running synthetic oil in our motors because i want the best for my baby. sorry about the long post just don't know what to do.
Most oil gets burned while in vtec (espec at the high rpms), if you stay out of vtec most of the time you should be fine. If you rev a lot then maybe you should switch to a good non-synthetic

so you're saying that synthetic is actually WORSE than conventional if you get above 4K a lot?

I believe it's better unless in this case, where his rings are probably not holding the best compression, and too much oil is making it's way into the combustion area. That's not gonna help performance or be good for long term either.
are you using 5w-30 or 10w-30
