Default idling problem...

my car idle's fine when i turn it on and let it warm up in the morning...and when i get out of school. im not sure what its idling at cuz i dont have a tach.
...but if i start to get on it and rev it a little bit higher while im cruisin and then slow down and push the clutch in or go to neutral, the revs start to pulsate up and down. i have no idea what would could be causing it. if i turn the car off while its doing it and then start it up again it goes away.

...i also did an ecu check, and there is nothing...just a code 17 which is my vss that isnt hooked up...

the engine is a obd0 b18a1 in a 91 hatch.

any ideas?

Like he said. pull the valve off the back of the intake manifold and clean it out. then flush your coolant system. there is a drain on the bottom of the radiator.

first off once its warmed up is it bouncing between 2 distinct idles.. like 500 then to 1300 and back or something like that or does it fluctuate?

if its bouncing like i stated and you cant find any vaccum leaks and you dont have air in the coolant, then what you need to do is readjust your idle.. try this..

warm the car up all the way
unplug your idle air control valve (iacv) on the back of the intake manifold,
the idle should settle at about 1200-1500 and be steady
now adjust your idle screw back down to about 700 or so with the iacv still unplugged
once there, plug the iacv back in and your car should idle fine around 750ish.

After you get it set, turn off the car, remove the Hazard fuse, then plug the iacv back in, and then replace the Hazard fuse.

TPS! Mine is doing the same thing now. I'm about to change out the TPS. BTW, it's easier just to get a whole 'nother throttle body.
