at least 500 miles, every one i know drives very easy the first 500 miles and then steps up the rpm's after that...like one day only going to 4 and the next day 5 and the next day 5.5,, **** like that....just take it easy with them for a while so you get proper ring seating and you;ll be straight...

500 miles on valvoline 5w30 don't let it hit vtec though
then change the oil at 500 miles
then gradually move the rpm's up
1000 miles all together should be good enough

well pistons need to be balanced with the rods at a machine shop. Everything should run between 600-1000.00 at the most. Break in on SAE 30 oil (as per Mike K). The rings should seat right away. You can hit VTEC but i wouldnt rev it past 6500 for the first 500 miles, then gradually increase rpm usage till 1000. Those pistons will make some difference with the Skunk 2 manifold but to use the manifolds full potential bigger cams are needed. Along with some dyno tuning

1000 miles.

30w oil only. No 5w 10w 15w nothings. NO SYNTHETIC

First 200 miles, change oil & filter.

At 500 miles, change oil & filter.

At 1000 miles, change oil & filter.

Rev to 5k in 2nd or 3rd gear at WOT after the inital 15-30 minute break in. (after your done checking the water level, etc...) Do this a coupe of times if possible.

Don't grandma it, but don't be overly aggressive either.

Keep it under 5.5k for the first 500 miles, under 7k for the last 500 miles.

When driving, vary your RPM +/- 1000 as much as possible. If you have to freeway drive, downshift to 4th then back to 5th to vary the revs. Do this about every 30-60 seconds of driving.

HTH.

You need a heavier weight to clean and lubricate all the parts. Too light of a weight and the rings and bearings will not seat properly.

Synthetic is a NO-NO for engine breakin, to thin and slippery.
